We don't have basements here in Australia, especially in the area I live in. If we want a basement/cellar, it has to be approved by the local council because of the water table. Wine cellars usually are ok by the council. My grandfather lived in Cornwall, he was an archaeologist, and he had a cellar that was off limits to all but him. He used to write his theses down there. I remember him grumbling and swearing down there when I was a kid.

Well often times they’re dark, musty, damp, old, creaky, smell bad, moldy and unsettling. Even thinking about going in an attic or a basement makes you shiver. Our basement in my childhood home was most definitely haunted by the way.

A Romanian man I studied under said a Priest in his town said a woman he knew had the power of a Strigoi, a Romanian witch or ghost, and used it to steal milk from his cow. So he waited in the dairy one night, and seen a frog hop in, as it leapt for the cows udder he struck out and got it with his knife. Next day he seen the woman with a bandage on her arm!
