The first time you covered this camera, it caught my attention. Love the idea of having a small form factor M. I've not had much luck finding a well looked after CL /CLE. Another great video!

Thanks for a positive and clear review. I've read that the view finder is not easy to see through and doesn't offer a good depth of field. Also I've read it's not good for portraits. Could you please comment on this? I'm looking closely at this camera as I want a small film, one lens camera.

The viewfinder is a window as it is on all rangefinders so there is no depth of field preview. A 40mm can be used for portraits. I'd say this is a solid buy and to read less, the reviews are not necessarily right for anyone but the reviewer.

I was about to purchase a Leica M2 or M3, but already use the M1 and have not issues using 18mm to 50mm range without a rangefinder. Over time you get used to figuring out distance. I opted to purchase the Leica CL film since I have a few M mount lenses that would work much better with a rangefinder (e.g., 100mm, 135mm). I should also mention that I carry a Rollei 35 as a backup since it is small and reliable. I did not expect the Rollei 35 and Leica CL to be so similar. Like the M1, there is no physical focus. The film on Rollei 35 loads the same way. However, the Rollei 35 has a fixed lens, but it is a 40mm the same length as the Minolta Rokkor M that I am using with this camera. I do not use meters on either three of my cameras, so that is not an issue. I am sitll getting used to the Leica CL, but it does have a lot of great quailities.

You get good at zone focusing!

I shot my dad’s 1972 Leica CL for years, the meter was junk. I wore it out. Several years ago I picked up another CL, a sturdy little workhorse.

I love the Leica CL paired with the 40mm Summicron-C lens. It's small and lighter than other M bodies, and I find it easier to load film into, than "normal" M bodies, where only the base plate comes off. If I could only keep one Leica, it would be my M5, but it's very close.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Moving on to mirrorless, Nikon Z full frame, 26,40, & 85. All the Leica M lenses work well on it from 21 to 560.

hello Sir! I have small budget and i consider 90 elmar and rokkor 90 from leica cl to my m4. I own 50mm but i need somethink with 90mm. Can You please tell me about bad side of that lens? Best whishes

I don't think either one would be a bad choice. Go for the one you can afford and that inspires you.

Hi Kenneth, do you find the finder scratch your glasses? Is the finder frame made of plastic or metal? Thanks!
@kennethwajda2 жыл бұрын
It's plastic, and I think it will scratch them, so I keep a bit away. I'm so careful after having scratched past pairs of glasses.
@garrisonliang6782 жыл бұрын
@@kennethwajda yeah I’ve scratched some of my glasses as well. I like the viewfinder on my Nikons FM which has a layer of rubber around it, it protects my glasses.

I've always been intrigued by this camera, as I was with the voigt bessa r, but the plastic body has always made me turn away. Also with the voigtlander the shutter issue that they get...and with this camera, yeah...it's the fact it has a meter which I don't use and the plastic body for $400 + is scary to me. Hahaa, silly I know.
