I bought one 4 years ago for a little under $400 and the IQ and build quality blew my mind right away. Even still today with the grip on it and the right lens nobody will question you and you cannot beat those harddrive friendly, 12mp files. The camera is a total joy to shoot and it’s easily stil a great choice for a professional wedding/portrait photographer. And then some.

Ya know, the only objection I have to YouTUbe reviewers, Kenneth, is when they 1. don't take the time to get even the most basic information correct (i.e. launch date July 2008, not 2010 or 2012) - a simple "google search" prior to uploading a video would reveal this and 2. failing to point out any of the potential downside (i.e. servicing the camera for parts). Other than getting a potential bargain (I own the D700 - and purchased it used), this really a compelling case (i.e.no photos or case use). Every camera has strengths and weaknesses - I didn't really see any evidence of either here. Point is, I'd love to hear something new about the D700 (i.e. revisited) and I believe Martin Castein did such a review with photos last year. Glad your mother's advice paid off, but this seemed to be more a video about shopping for bargains that the D700 per se.

This isn't a review site, in this case it was about how I find things in the current day that are good to still use. That was the point of this. Not about anything else. Sorry it wasn't what you were looking for.

There is no point in listening to Ken. He's got issues. He doesn't prepare for his blogs, doesn't know how to provide a decent back drop for his little talks about how he bought his Leica for $23.64 at the pawn shop(after getting the guy to come down from $50). Ken is all about being cheap. It's definitely not about photography.👎

Got mine with a beat up body. All rubber grips need to be replaced and the battery door is broken off. However, it still works and the images they produce are phenomenal. I took portraits for my family with the D700 and the 135 F2 DC and the images are amazing.

Thanks Kenneth. I have 2 D700s and they still get regular use. I believe the elephant in the room now days when using these older sensors is modern editing software. I find the D700 files work great when using super resolution in Lightroom Classic. Although rarely needed for most uses, the 48MP files created from super resolution can, in my experience, rival my D850, especially in well lit scenes with average dynamic range. If you don't need the high res files, which I find to be the case most of the time, then you have smaller files that just fly in the editor.

I've moved to the lighter Fuji system as I've got older, however as I still kept my manual Nikon lenses I decided to buy a D700 last summer just as a minimal outlay 1 camera 1 lens FF option. Really good choice when you don't want to break the bank but want a quality reliable camera. As DSLR prices continue to fall I find myself eyeing the higher resolution D800 which I think is now reaching bargain price territory compared to the modern era high resolution cameras at several multiples higher price with a host of advanced features I don't actually need as a stills only shooter.

It depends on price & glass. Also remember, the D600 isn't built like the D700, nor does it have the focus system. I had a D7000, which has the same AF system & hated it when the light got low. Even in shade, it sucked.

i have Nikon D700 and Nikon D850...And D700 clear winner on photography process, idea, art, because you don't need to spend more time in post processing:) Nowdays cameras focusing on procesing...Both stuff is fun for me...But skintones - D700 winner...If you make photography without mistakes (like film photographers did) - Then you don't need D850:) i have fujifilm gfx50s medium format too, it better colors than D850 (i will sell my D850 near future)...Medium format is fun for me for Landscapes and Architecture...23mm gives me 18mm ekvivalent of view:)🎉

I did many a commercial shoot with a D700, a great camera. BTW I recall asking an art director for a magazine what size files she really needed for magazine covers, as I was accustomed to giving her 75mb TIFFS (which I think the D700 can do). Her response? 35mb. So even back then art directors were most likely downsizing photo files from a D700.

Whilst I agree with the crop capabilities, I didn't find the D700 exposure to be an issue once I got used to the camera, nor was the AWB an issue. As for the D750, yeah not a fan. Good luck with the tilt screen. Have heard too many people have issues with the screen giving issues, especially where the ribbon cable goes into the body. And neither the D600, D610 or D750 comes close to the D700 in build. That said, I did like the sensor output of the D610 & D750, but the build quality, I was not a fan of
