So much to love about this video. First, the ice hanging off the door jams. Something we don't see here in SoCal. Second, the Ram-Air intake and Monster Exhaust. Third, the Amsoil oiling and FASS fueling systems. Fourth, it's a single cable! So rare these days. And finally, the coldest start we've seen in a while. Thanks, Jay!

I have 2001 2500HD excab LB7 92,000 miles been garage kept. I bought it 5 weeks ago . It has a K&N cold air breather and a tow tuner it was used to pull a horse trailer. Not sure what brand tuner it has. It was a one owner truck. I have always owned Chevy trucks this is the first Duramax diesel I owned. I have drove Duramaxs in a 4500 and a 5500 Chevy pulling 3 car haulers. I really liked them. I have a 2004 3500 8.1 and a 1999 2500 6.0 both are great truck just hard on fuel. This Duramax LB7 is doing great on fuel mpg. Love the toque it has

I love my 02 LB7. Even in the negative temperatures in Missouri I didn't have problems with cold starting. I was using Amsoil in all the holes for a few years, but switched to HSS on everything down to the coolant. I have been curious about the bypass filter. I just put my FASS on last year. It sat on a shelf in my garage for THREE YEARS! I have done injectors, rebuilt the turbo with upgraded wheels, built trans and upgraded the CP3 when it needed to be replaced.

That's awesome, Terry! I love hearing stories like this. Have you noticed a difference in the Hot Shots Secret products over the AmsOil? Please check out my other videos if you're curious about what all I've done. I'm currently working on combining EFI Live tuning with my Banks Power EconoMind in-line tuner. @terryhicks694 Жыл бұрын
@Jay Russell - '02, LB7 Duramax the engine definitely runs quieter with the HSS oil. I had Amsoil in the trans until the recent build. The builder uses Shaffer's in the transmission. Being as though it is now built and my added oversized transmission cooler, I can't speak for that. I do feel that the HSS hold up longer in the differentials, but the Amsoil is no slouch.

That’s an awesome cold start for a duramax, I know if any of the glow plugs are bad even just one they do not want to start. Old job with my dad had an Lbz 06 duramax and it had one bad glow plug, well we had a bad cold front and it killed one battery, I needed the truck and had to charge it for a while well it was still really cold out and it did not want to start even after charging and also doing something I shouldn’t by spraying either into the intake, I had to use a shop blow heater to heat everything up for it to crank. Truck runs great and generally never have bad issues though just that once

@@JayRussellDuramax Jay I live in North Dakota my pickup is an 4 door short box and this last one is a 2014 I am getting pretty close to upgrading to the newest one but good grief the price keeps going up faster than I want to pay! I collect Military trucks as a hobby so my pickup is used a lot for hauling smaller trucks on my Gooseneck trailer and its used for hauling a lot of parts also. A few years ago I ran out to NY to pick up a U1300L Unimog and I had 17500 pounds behind my pickup for 1700 miles, at 65 MPH I averaged 12 MPG, I thought that pretty good! The biggest improvements I have seen on the DMax pickups has been of course HP, which is fine but burns more fuel, and the transmission cooling, my earlier ones I had to kind of keep an eye on trans temps, never hot enough to hurt anything just warmer than normal under heavy loads. My last DMax with the Allison pulling at Max Gross I was watching the temp on the trans and never once saw it go over 135 degrees. I have been a GM person my whole life (Not that they are the best?) I honestly dont know because its all I have ever owned, but they have always worked well for my needs!

it's not bad. it seems to be a new engine. my opinion is that the car should be kept in the garage at night and when stopped. When you start with him in the morning it will be much hotter. it can also insulate with suitable material, HVAC, the oil sump and diesel tank and eventually even create a tightness in the engine compartment, with coating underneath. My LEXUS have it. of course, in hot weather you need to evaluate this.

How did you program it for the tires? I stepped up to 265s and want to do the same thing
@JayRussellDuramax3 жыл бұрын
Well, when I bought the truck, the previous owner already had a Superchips tuner in it. He was running the performance tune on it - which I didn't like, because it blew smoke. That tuner - and many others, I'm sure - has a "Stock with Options" tune that keeps the fuel map the same while allowing you to program the speedometer for bigger tires. GM is always puts too much tech into things, instead of a simple switch. I believe the the 2001-2003 cold high idle is activated by pushing the cruise set from park. I have a 2005 LLY the high idle is turned on in the vehicle settings, it is hard to find. Most people assume there is no high idle control until they are shown. @@JayRussellDuramax, Yes, because they're dual purpose batteries, they're made to withstand repeated voltage drops, whereas starting battering will start to weaken after a bit, yellowtops have a better recovery rate...IF you really want to make your batteries last as long as possible, plug them into a a battery tender charger, because they are in parallel on charger will keep both batteries charged...Alternately you can get a NOCO onboard batter charger and it will accomplish the same thing at a higher cost...
