@@Wallie33. They're also both characters who... Are tricky to really figure out the feats for. You'd probably have to scale Rean to Cassius and Arios (he's at least within the same VAGUE ballpark as them), whereas Byleth's feats are mostly in gameplay so it's hard to work out what they're actually capable of. It'd also raise the question of "Does Valimar count as outside help?" and if he does, would allowing Valimar mean Byleth is allowed Sothis? Because at that point, I feel like Byleth would just have the win because time rewinding is bullshit. Without either, I genuinely couldn't tell you. Probably Rean, just because I think he's a more practiced combatant.

​@@charcharmunr Between Rean and Byleth, I'd have to give it to Rean because he's simply shown off more power and feats than Byleth has. The latter of whom has little going for them outside of generic statements like how strong they are. Rean on the other hand has the following: (Strength) --- Rean's sword swings are strong and precise enough that he can cut cleanly through solid steel with ease. He also regularly takes on and defeats legions of soldiers, giant monsters, and robots with a group of nothing more than 4-8 people at max when it takes Byleth and company canonically bringing in small battalions to achieve the same feat. He can also jump REALLY high when he wants too, enough that in Hajimari he can scale a cliff the size of Godzilla in just a few seconds by jumping along its side. (Endurance/Stamina) --- Has tanked attacks from individuals with enough strength to actually break actual tanks. Also in CS4, Rean ends up getting held captive for over a month. To quote TvTropes about it "Rean had been chained up for little over a month, spent that time mostly awake, and likely has not eaten much during said period either. Yet despite all this, he's capable enough to rampage throughout the Black Workshop aided by Celine, Crow, and Duvalie, gets into a fight against McBurn and the Stahlritter, gets into a fight against New Class VII, and after snapping out of his rage, he then gets into a fight against Osborne and Arianrhod." Simply put, his stamina is insane when pushed. (Speed) --- Rean is incredibly fast to the point that he can create afterimages not unlike Dragon Ball characters can. He can even disarm groups of people before they even had time to process what just happened. (Other Traits) --- Has incredibly keen senses so it's hard to take him off guard. He can also be very stealthy, enough that a trained assassin like Rixia who's basically a ninja couldn't even sense him coming until he announced himself when confronting her and Lloyd at the end of CS2. This was before the timeskip too meaning Rean has only gotten stronger and better since then. He also has Spirit Unification which grants Rean an increase in his overall power for a brief time. Byleth does have years of experience as a mercenary, but that means little to someone like Rean who's fought against similar people with way more experience and even beaten some of them. The one thing that Byleth legit has over Rean is the Time Reverse technique that Sothis gave them. However, the Time Reverse itself does have its limits as it can only be used sparingly a few times each battle and it's still up to Byleth to find a way to react to their opponents. The problem then comes in that Byleth does not have any legitimate ways to truly harm Rean. On their own, they only really have the Sword of the Creator and Rean has fought against worst than a blade that can extend itself like a whip. If we're talking about bringing in their respective groups so that it's a team Death Batlle, then I would still give it to Rean and Class VII because no one among the Three Houses really comes close to the level of power that Kiseki characters overall can output. They just have the better skills, weapons, and technology.

According to calcs I've seen for this, Rean should be Multi-Continent via tanking Osborne's ultimate attack which destroys the surface of the planet. Byleth should approximately scale to Rhea, who tanked several Javelins of light. It puts them at about Island level at max. In terms of speed, Rean can keep up with opponents who use light speed attacks and beyond. Byleth is similar, considering they can dodge Rhea's Hoarfrost, which is a light based attack. In terms of Divine Pulse, Rean has full situational awareness at all times so he could potentially catch on. He can also buff himself and had better options for healing himself. Overall, Rean just has better options for winning and has the superior stats, despite his opponent's time manipulation. He just pulls one over the Ashen Demon.

I have a pretty cool death in mind for this death battle. In which Rean performs his most powerful S-Craft Breaking Dawn. As Rean consecutively kill Byleth with each and every technique of the 8 leaves 1 blade technique. But Byleth kept coming back with Divine Pulse to retroactively dodge them until the final technique which is breaking dawn. When it dawns on Byleth that he/she has run out of uses for it

He definitely does, but Rean is more impressive. Byleth has at most, Island level feats while Rean has Large Planet feats. Byleth is FTL sure but Rean can match and even surpass him. Divine Pulse is a bitch sure, but Rean has complete battlefield awareness with his immense training, especially after becoming a Divine Blade. Sure, Byleth essentially leading his chosen classes' army to victory in a war that ended less than a year after he got involved is impressive, but Rean did it twice and the second time the war ended in less than 24 hours. No matter how we look at it, Byleth doesn't have many ways to win, if any.

Byleth doesn't have limits, that's a gameplay Mechanic. They can go back as many times as they want and try again. Not to mention it's completely disorienting, and can even stop time, so yeah...yeah I don't think Byleth is getting killed for good.

Well Byleth (assuming you composite the feats from the 4 different possible routes) was able to kill a rampaging dragon, defeat the Hedgemon Husk, and topple the revived King of Liberation, Nemesis, who himself nearly wiped out the Nabatean race.

True, but Rean has also fought against beings with god-like power and scales with the other Trails protagonists who likewise have had to fight similar powered foes. Throw on the fact Rean used the Eight Leave One Blade style, which is the most OP sword style in trails while like 50% of the strongest people in the series use. And Rean is stated to have the potential to be the strongest user of the form ever, having gone from beginner level to Divine Blade (master of the sword style) in 3 years. Just to highlight how OP the Eight Leaves is, Rean specializes in Form 7: Void, which alone can do some crazy stuff. It lets him act and fight without thought (basically ultra instinct), mess with foe's perception to see things that aren't there (we never see Rean do this, but Cassius Bright does and Rean is better at Void than Cassius as Cassius's best form is Form 1 Helix), resist mind control and possession (Rean kicked a being with godlike power out of his head, though he did have a power of friendship boost aiding him), harness and control the power of his own demonic form, and so on

@@ismailaldienrazi1236 In my opinion, Akechi has the better chances of winning. Both Crow and Akechi are protrayed as equals to the respective main character of their games. And since we have the third semester in Royal and the final boss there gets the power of Yaldobaoth, Akechi should scale to the rest of the PT. This would make him at least universal (Yaldobaoth keeping up the fused world of Mementos and the real world), potentially higher. Trails is a little trickier, since it isn't a well researched series in terms of vs debates. Crow should be at least planet level via scaling to Ishmelga Knight's S-Craft, potentially higher via arts like "Lost Genesis". The highest that he could be would be universal via the fake Sept-Terrion in the Crossbell duology resetting and creating a completly new timeline to my knowledge. Cross-Scaling should be usable since all Trails games are connected and the heroes of older games appear in the Cold Steel saga. As such, Akechi should be at least equal to Crow, but is most likely stronger (since Yaldobaoth fused two dimensions). Depending on how you treat attack animations, Akechi should also be much faster (Big Bang Burger Attack scaling) with MFTL than Crow's FTL (via laser evasion). Crow has more variety with Arts and Crafts and is better trained, but against Akechi's stat advantage it doesn't help him much.

Although Byleth has numerous advantages over Rean, such both the Crest of Flames and Nosferatu allowing Byleth to keep health up, or having experience in multiple fields while Rean mostly only trained in swords, I'd imagine Rean winning due to survive planetary attacks to possibly even supernovas(This is specifically called a supernova in the description of the move: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHzXi2CQpqqemac) and can have Valimar return fire with similar firepower. He can also use Spirit Unification to prevent inflictions from poison or burns to create fake copies of himself so Byleth has to keep predicting which Rean is the real one. There's also the fact stealth wouldn't work on Rean, since he's been shown to be able to sense others who have tried to sneak up on him. Time manipulation would certainly help, but that can only stall the inevitable when your foe is so much stronger and tougher than you, and Rean can do the same, speeding himself up or slowing Byleth down, while Byleth can only reverse time, which gives Byleth knowledge of Rean's power, not completely stop him, so although they both can be rounded to light speed reaction(I can't think of a way to get Byleth's speed without gameplay mechanics so I think we should use it for both of them) Rean can always stay faster than Byleth.

I’m not someone who is knowledgeable about Rean as honestly this song was what ended up introducing him to me so I can’t fairly weigh Byleth against him, but I do want to play advocate for Byleth and give em more of their feats. First in regards to their multiple weapon proficiencies, Byleth learns addition skills in addition to “being good at said weapon” with the breaker line of skills being a notable one which gives him an edge against enemies of various weapons in addition to not needing to use a weapon that would traditionally counter the opponents weapon. So it’s safe to say on top of knowing various weapons, Byleth is also proficient in countering them as well. Additionally Byleth is even proficient in non weapon based arts as seen by their inherent proficiency of brawling which itself gives Byleth access to various other healing based actions like healing focus and draining blow as well as various means of movement following their attacks. Next they’re also capable of dealing with high caliber attacks due to them being able to take on beings likes Rhea(dragon form), Edelgard(Hegemon Husk), and Nemesis in addition to the spell meteor which is emphasized to be a fairly sizable meteor given its history in the franchise as a deadly spell. Finally there’s the power of Sothis he draws from. While I’d say the power Byleth gets from Sothis doesn’t make them a full on god like the lore would argue, there’s still a fair amount of power Byleth gets and can use. They can cut a hole between dimensions and they gain the enlightened one class which makes them harder to take out in addition to the healing and means of countering weapons. Essentially they can solo large armies and monsters fairly well(and while the games do promote you to fight with an army, it’s in the realm of possibility for Byleth to solo many supposedly team situations). Finally this isn’t really a means of disproving something you said but more of clarifying something you said, while Byleth can use divine pulse to get the jump on Rean and likely have it fail, Byleth doesn’t seem to really use Divine pulse for that. Byleth really seems to only use Divine pulse in life or death situations since the games force activated the skill of Byleth dies in battle and if someone close to them is dying due to the 2 cutscenes we have of them which isn’t a huge detail but would impact how they’d strategize.

Yes, Byleth could use other weapons, but the only other non magic or bow weapons that are notable Rean has a counter to: The poison weapons, which Rean can use Spirit Unification(Basically his version of enlightened one, but Demonic instead of Holy) which makes him immune to status effects, such as poison. And if he summons Valimar, his robot partner, he couldn't be poisoned since it uses metal parts, not organic organs that'd be affected by poison. And remember, the tougher the foe, the less the healing effect of healing moves. 2. After thinking, Rean likely actually has a way to stop Byleth from using Divine Pulse. Remember, SPOILERS: In the ending of Crimson Flower, it shows that if the crest stone near Byleth's heart is destroyed, all linked powers are severed, which would logically include his Divine Pulse. Rean has the ability to sense strong power and auras coming from people. It's very well possible he could sense the crest stone near Byleth's heart and strike it to destroy it. 3. The Eight Leaves One Blade Style is a very special swordfighting style, which Rean uses, and few know it, so it's unlikely something Byleth would immediately be able to counter.

@@nicholashewitt6223 1. I honestly never considered Byleth’s offensive magic skills in the matchup because 1. They’re not very notable in that the magic pool for Byleth is somewhat limited and 2. Based on what you have of Rean tanking a supposed supernova(highly doubt it’s an actual one cause game mechanics but still can read it as a great amount of Fire doing damage) magic would probably be something Byleth doesn’t consider cause the fire line of magic is Byleth’s main magic. Plus I highly doubt Byleth would use poison as a means of offense cause it’s not something inherent in their arsenal or something that’s looked into as poison is honestly an afterthought in most cases. I was really looking into Byleth’s proficiency of other weapons as means of them learning new skills that would provide additional defense and means of countering weapon choices as from what I understand Rean also uses a sword and despite Byleth being a swordie themselves can use breaker skills which gives them an advantage against certain weapons and sword break is one. 2. Honestly while I consider Sothis’ powers, I highly doubt it’d factor in very much. At most Byleth would probably get a few divine pulses in before it’d likely be disabled and probably still fight as being stunned never stopped Byleth from fighting(gambit paralysis and no I’m not using the crimson flower cutscene as justification of them falling from losing their crest as it was more exhaustion than the actual loss of the crest), I’d honestly just argue it makes them a bit tougher to take on compared to an average opponent. Byleth is still fairly capable as a normal mortal which I honestly think is a key thing as I wouldn’t read it as Byleth being disarmed and be impaired in regards to continuing to fight. So the main points I’d takeaway is that Byleth is extremely proficient in many weapons with the main takeaway being that through learning other weapons they also learn how to counter them as well in addition to being an incredibly tough due to non magic healing methods like healing focus and draining blow while also being quite mobile with mobility attacks like fading blow in addition to being able to take down large monsters and highly durable foes. However with what you said Rean does come off as more durable in comparison with more offensive power which may suggest him as the victor, but the nature of Fire emblem as a game does make it hard to read as to what exactly are the powers of its characters.

Nemesis used the power of the Sword of the Creator to destroy a mountain in the past, and I see no reason someone else with the sword, crest AND crest stone, wouldn't be comparable to this. It's Byleth's best feat between story AND gameplay. The reason I brought up Rean surviving a supernova is because I had to use gameplay to determine Byleth's speed, and it was the only way I could. And if i'm gonna use gameplay feats for Byleth, i'm gonna do the same for Rean. Even ignoring this, he still fought and defeated a being very capable of destroying a planet in his games.

@@nicholashewitt6223 My point on why I say it’s hard to read byleth’s abilities because of how Fire Emblem is laid out is because how do you interpret battlefield mobility, crits, etc. Do you take the movement as speed and means of ground mobility? Do you consider crits as potential means for characters to strike an enemy down in one blow as crits function much differently in game? What is the actual power gain crests possess in game vs what they should be read as? As for lore, yes there’s lore explanations but at the same time how deliberate is the lore? One of Three Houses’ themes is that what is described as myth and the lore of the world is quite misleading and quite contrary to what is. Now that doesn’t mean we can’t take what we do get at face value and use it to reason the strength of the characters, but this is kinda where I was going with “it’s hard to understand the powers of the characters”. Again, it isn’t meant to disprove anything you said as you honestly provide things I honestly probably overlooked in the games, I’m just saying that Fire Emblem, and its gameplay style as a tabletop rpg, isn’t the easiest thing to interpret due to it not being traditional in letting things be head on.

While at first glance I'd agree that Ryan takes this, it is important to note that Byleth does have a few interesting points that keep him/her for being entirely put of the running. Divine Pulse is of course the biggie, but there's also the fact that several of the big enemies can be argued to act as decent stand ins for Valimar and we know Byleth can take them. My money would be on Rean but I think it's closer than you'd give it credit for at first glance.

Hmm...honestly the deciding factor is if the Ashen Cevelier could actually noticeably track Divine Pulse. In canon, they can use it as many times as they want, but in gameplay obviously not. So basically any time they're in danger, Byleth could timestop, think about a counter, go back, and do it. Every. Single. Time. It's basically a battle where the opponent says "Nuh uh, that didn't hit me, I moved back in time to dodge it!"

The problem with the "unlimited divine puls" is, that Sothis herself says, that her power is not infinite (in chapter 2 she states and I quote "I shall allow you to turn back the hands of time, but know that this power is not infinite!). Since Byleth also can be killed in Three Hopes this seems to hold true. If Rean can outlast Byleth (especially with Byleth getting more and more info on him) comes down to stats.

@ZMusok well during Three Hopes, Shez can just move out of the way of attacks, and can track Divine Pulses. Arval even says that they're *Made* to kill the Ashen Demon. Also, in the Chapter 2 dialog, it's a finite Mechanic in game, meanwhile Three Hopes can spam it, it just tires them, cause they can't just kill with the first one.

Even if they can spam it it does not mean it's infinite. Also Rean has literal one shot options. As in they just tap byleth and byleth dies. Transmutiation and Insta death are both status effects that can be inflicted by Rean. (Also that's ignoring the massive strenght gap.)

Both become teacher at prestigious military schools and are pulled into a conflict that decides the future of their homelands. Great theme! In a real battle Byleth has no chance though. Base Rean can block machine gun bullets at point blank range without any problem. Byleth meanwhile has no speed feats except a time rewind. And Rean fights reality warping foes on a regular basis. That's before any of his power ups or summoning Valimar...

Rean is immune to status effects through various ways, which time altering effects are in his universe (clock down), and his final S-Craft, breaking dawn, moves way way faster than anything Byleth has done. Though the latter does depend on your interpretation to some extent. He seems to be standing still while delivering countless slashes to everyone around him in a huge area.

I am tempted to say that Rean outclasses Byleth significantly in speed, probably in strength considering the enemies he fights over and over (giant mechs and such even on foot at the very start of his career, and he has 5 more games). Skill is debatable, and Rean has a much wider Variety of magic and equipment + a semi-godmode transformation. As such Byleth will eventually just run out of Divine pulse uses before Rean cuts him/her to pieces.

@@dieuwtjin Actually of all the stats. Surprisingly Byleth takes speed the easies with Gameplay feats taken to account. Sure Rean can avoid Photon based lasers (reletively consistantly). but Byleths dodging the immaculet one's Horfrost has been calculated at 3.9 times lightspeed. (So ~4 times faster then Rean's feats.)

@@dbfan199 They do have feats on par with eachother (Mainly Country-Large Country, but I *THINK* there's arguments for Universal Byleth in Three Hopes iirc with scaling to Shez, who is arguable scalable to the Zaharas dimension thing and Epimenedes, which there are some arguments on that front), but a lot of people put them at Country Level and I think Rean being faster Just to be clear, I haven't played ToCS so I don't know for sure, but I know there's Planetary Scaling for him apparently, which you could just use the Sothis statement of her flooding the world to *possibly* even the gap, or even using Heroes to support Sothis creating the universe

Beat Weissman using the Aureolus, and Aureolus created 7 dimensions each with their own star system implying each to be universes called Phantasma. As well as Directly having the spell Lost genesis, which destroys time and space. and I need to check the fan translation but Mcburn states a copy of him if not careful could have destroyed the true reverie corridor which is described to be similer in size as Phantasma BY Joshua who experienced it. 2. Sothis Sinking the world even at it's highest is 200+ Petatons. The Planet busts Rean Scale to at minimum, 59 Zettatons. (That's over 10000 times stronger. btw.) Honestly putting Rean at just Country level is imo pretty weird due to the several feats above country level. (Weissman, Lost genesis, Ishmegla's planet bust, 50% of Kevins stigma being turned into a monster that blows up a planet as a supermove, and Fighting and beating Mcburn.) 5 feats over country level. Compared to the one country level feat of... ishmelga's curse spreading across the country. (Ishmelga who straight up planet busts)

As far as I know Ivy’s only similarity to Byleth is the whip sword. Rean has way more similarities to Byleth than just that so I say he makes perfect sense. We could also debate on the fact that Rean has fought a whip sword user in his series so there is also that.
