Walbro HDA 199 Chainsaw carburetor metering valve seat lap with toothpaste

I picked this technique up on OPE and I forget who let me know, but thanks.
May take a couple q tips and rinses before you get seat really bright and give needle valve a chance to provide a tight shut off. Do this on almost all carb rebuilds on older saws I pick up.

THAT LITTLE SILVER GAUZE NEAR CENTRE BLOCKS WITH VARNISH AND HAS A RUBBER VALVE UNDERNEATH IT THAT STICKS. CHANGING THAT GAUZE IS VERY VERY DIFFICULT.

Have you done many before and after testing of this? And symptoms of? I usually just do visual of needle and then carb clean through

If I I’m having a hard time getting the carb to pass a pressure test and I feel I’m in pretty good shape on the metering lever, I’ll do this. It does a good job cleaning the varnish from the valve seat.

Hmm I wonder if a drop of goof off wouldnt eat any residue quickly. Follow with air, carb cleaner, and more air.
