Nick Kwas from Korg USA plays the Waldorf Quantum at Kraft Music.
Waldorf Quantum draws on decades of development, borrowing from Waldorf's famed wavetable oscillator technology and combining it with a modern digital-analog hybrid architecture and sleek user interface to go beyond what was previously possible. Eight voices with three oscillators per voice (each capable of four synthesis algorithms), two analog lowpass filters per voice, and multitimbral splits and layers provide a wealth of sonic possibilities. Modulation options come courtesy of six LFOs and six loopable envelopes with multistage LFO/envelope modulator, while Quantum's multi-touch display offers visualization and deep sound-editing capabilities. Other features include a 61-key Fatar keyboard, internal memory and SD card slot for loading user wavetables and samples, arpeggiator and step sequencer, master effects, and versatile I/O options.
Get more for your money with an exclusive Waldorf Quantum synthesizer bundle from Kraft Music. These package deals include the accessories you'll need to get the most out of your new synth, all for one low price. If you have any questions, please give us a call. Our knowledgeable Sales Advisors will be happy to assist in choosing the bundle that's right for you!

From what I've heard so far I can't get into this synth even though it looks beautiful and sturdy. These sounds are painful. Even the basic saw and square waves, but especially the granular synth sounds. I prefer DX bells over these harsh tones. For my taste, the most useful sounds were at 10:15, 11:35, and the bass tone at 15:30. That top end needs to be tamed. Also, what happened to making multitimbral synths with huge polyphony? A low number of voices is an analog limitation. I don't understand why a modern digital synth has this limitation even with analog filters.

This is the typical Waldorf sound that I actually recognize instantly from the humble Blofeld - hard, crushing and metallic. If unleashed, it sounds like a circle saw cutting through German steel. Incredibly pricey as hardware, but I would love to see it released as a software version. After all it is mainly software in a dedicated (and beautiful) box.

no wonder soft synths are so popular. $5000 for one synth is something only the elite or touring musicians can afford. I do love that touch pad for controlling filter sweeps. Wish they made a midi controller like that.
@michaelbauers8800
@michaelbauers8800 5 жыл бұрын
It's pricey, however if you look at the history of synth pricing, it's not outrageous. For example, the Korg M1 came out in 1988. One source says it listed at $2000. That would be about $4500 today. Which is the price of this synth. And the M1 sold very well, according to what I read. I am sure I could come up with many examples. Yamaha's Montage is $3000. Quite a bit cheaper, but not exactly a Berhinger. I feel people are used to paying a lot less money for synths, due to all the cheap synths now. But the flagship products can be quite pricey. R&D isn't free, for one thing. If someone does R&D to make a new video card, they can sell a lot of them. They may only sell 5000 of these.

@kraftmusic
@kraftmusic 5 жыл бұрын
I love my Blofeld but I have the same issue with weak line output and a bit of noise through the outputs when connected via USB. It seems like this is a known issue with Blofeld, but there's an easy (and relatively cheap) fix. I plug mine into a 2-channel passive DI box, hit the ground lift, and plug the DI into a couple of mic preamps on my interface. This provides a crystal clear signal with tons of gain; Blofeld sounds killer with this method. Thanks for watching! -Dave

I remember the first time I put my hands on a Waldorf synthesizer model, the Q+ back in 2002. It was sitting one tier above to a Supernova II. Frankly, I wanted both of those models at the same time. I’m sure this model is totally capable, but it’s hard for me to tell instinctively whether I would spend the money on it if I even needed another synthesizer, the way I would’ve gone for the Q+. It might be different if I specifically thought I wanted a duplicate of the PPG Wave 2 with the virtual patch matrix of the Oberheim Matrix 12 attached.
@javiceres
@javiceres 6 жыл бұрын
ShreadTheWeapon Do you remember how much it was for the Q+? I’ve got a Q and to this day it is a deep, lush and flexible machine. The architecture is the best logically laid ever for such a deep machine. A Q+ is an all timeless classic instrument IMO.

I get what people mean about the high end. It's certainly interesting up at the top end and won't be everyone's cup of tea. That said, from the PPG onwards Waldorf has often done quite harsh sounding stuff. And presumably it can all be tamed with the analogue filters.

I really don't get this kind of synths. Every patch just fills the whole sound spectra and can only be used in an intro or film making. Those are totaly useless for songwriters since those patches are to advanced to fit in a mix. Can anyone explain this? Like, take the first sound in this video. How could it be used in any song?
@javiceres
@javiceres 6 жыл бұрын
Tomas Brun The explanation is they are there to show cast how wide the palette is, but look, you have thirty something knobs in the panel, can’t you just grab a couple of cut off knobs and magically transform one of those sounds into a focused narrower spectrum and usable one?

Although a hybrid, it rather sounds digital and doesn't have the richness in sound that e.g. a Moog offers..... It offers a lot of posibillities, that can be useful in someones workflow, but if sound is matters, it can be only one of a bunch of synthesizers.
@andrewnibbi
@andrewnibbi 5 жыл бұрын
Moppedsebi We synthesists know better than anyone that electronics have souls, and a saw wave from a Prophet 5 sounds different from a saw from a Moog Modular or a CS80 or a Korg Minilogue or one of these things. It matters, and just because this box “can” do everything under the sun doesn’t mean that it’s gonna do everything better. I want a vintagey richness in a synth, and this definitely doesn’t have it. Still, an amazing piece of kit.
@michaelbauers8800
@michaelbauers8800 4 жыл бұрын
@@andrewnibbi I have a Moog Sub37, and I can duplicate it's sound pretty closely with my Prophet 12. The biggest difference is the "buzziness" of the saw, and what a filter sweep sounds like. Don't get me wrong, love the Sub37, beautiful bass. But I remain unconvinced it provides much I can't do with my other synths. And I have heard it compared to a Minimoog, and it's pretty much the same thing, with some subtle differences. Maybe by itself, if I had perfect hearing I would notice or miss some sonic signature stuff, but in the mix??

no, i am a signal processing scientist and it's not that it's not intuitive, it is trying to woo you to think it is very powerful but the power is not in the control interface. When it comes to digital majesty you are correct. But for raw analogue synth sounds the Quantum will never match even the cheapest Moog synth. Then again most people buying a Waldorf (or any digital synth) are not concerned with the raw analogue sound and warmth.

Makes sense, if that Moog was in the water. :)

Way too expensive along with Dave Smith and Access Virus synths. Would need to be making lot of paid gigs to buy anything like this synth when you can buy 2-3 synths at this price point.
