India's obsession with Love in the Rain goes way back. Even classical sanskrit plays and ancient songs celebrate this. It has to do with India's life patterns that revolve around the Monsoons. People (typically men at that time) would travel for work in Spring and Summer and return home for the 4 months of monsoon (chaturmaas). Some common tropes are (i)the woman waiting for husband/ lover to return before the first rain and (ii) the joining of lovers as the first rains lash. The relationship with climate/ weather is not so explicit in today's media, the relationship is probably forgotten. but the 'love in rain' as a theme endures

Mohammad Rafi Sahab was a classically trained singer who was extremely adept at bringing emotions to songs. Do check out his full classical potential in the song "Madhuban mei Radhika naache re", set in Raag Hameer. You will be surprised to see how well he can sing both light music that you reacted to in this video as well as a fully classical piece, compositions which are rarely seen nowadays.

The greatest singer of all time. I'm sorry if Kishore Da's fan disagrees but he was more of a commercial singer but judging purely on singing talent, Rafi sahab is the greatest. I'm a 27 year old man and I have seen 18 year olds too getting inspired by Rafi sahab. The level of impact is immense. I can write a 1000 words essay on how Rafi sahab is the greatest singer of all time, so I should probably shut up.

Traditional Indian Classical music doesn't promote falsetto. Falsetto means a false sound/note, which is not allowed in Indian traditional music. It's not like they are not capable of doing that. It is because according to Indian classical falsetto is wrong. So singers don't prefer to do it, they focus on their base voice instead. 😊😊😊
@starsimvidz
@starsimvidz 10 ай бұрын
Yea, Indian Classical music does not like there to be a break in the voice. And also, falsetto doesn't have the breath support required to sing classical. You cannot get that level of voice control in false range. Sunidhi is really the only singer I can think of that uses falsetto a lot (and she actually has surprisingly good vocal agility in her falsetto)....

I think Dev Anand might be another thing you will like more, most of his movies had great songs. Whenever I want feelings I go back to the old songs, for every mood there are many songs with amazing lyrics. As you rightly mentioned it had soul, most of the songs these days (not just remixes) lack soul.

Sanam's "Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha" cover was really good-one of the best covers I have heard. Nothing beats the old-world charm of the original, but that was an excellent cover. Lata herself would have liked it if she'd heard it. It definitely kept the essence and soul alive, unlike most remakes. By the way, the beautiful actress Madhubala was also considered the Marilyn Monroe of India because of her beauty, but unlike Marilyn, she was a good actress, too!

I Feel people shouldn't really compare old classic to this new versions. Unfortunately best singers of todY cannot to justice to these hard worked organic compositions. Also Lata is Lata because of her earlier songs first....nog many people listen to them. Lata with SD Burmun, Naushad ,C Ramachandran are some of better songs that should be explored.Also explore RaFi beyond famous on internet songs. Talat Mahmood with his lower notes is another singer people seem to have forgotten these days.

Walesa and effra Fun fact about the actor rajesh khanna at 12.14 and 17.13. He was the biggest superstar in india between 1969 and 1974. It was like beatlemania in india, he had the same type of craze as the beatles. The craze was such that india had never seen anything like it ever before. He had so much charisma that BBC did a documentary on him in 1974. Women used to go ga ga over him. The craze was such that women would write letters to him in thier own blood, no joke ! They would marry themselves to his photo,. his car would be full of womens lipstick every day. The craze was so bad that when he got married , many women committed suicide because he could no longer be theirs ! Its true. He eventually thought he was invincible and thought he was god. He started getting very arrogant, started being rude and bossy to people and started to treat everyone on set rudely including the directors. There was a new unknown actor at the time called Amitabh bhachan, who wasnt very good at the time. Amitabh did two films with rajesh khanna. And how amitabh was treated by rajesh khanna on set has become legendary. Rajesh was so rude to amitabh that he used to berate him all the time, used to make fun of his height, and tell him to cut his leg off and then come to set so that he is shorter. Rajesh used to tell amitabh that he will never make it as an actor and he should disappear. Just some example of how rajesh treated the shy and poor actor amitabh at the time. Rajesh refused to work with amitabh on many other films. Stating he was no good and useless. But soon the tables were turned. amitabh went on to deliver hits after hit. And eventually dethroned rajesh khanna from the top spot. Amitabh bhachan went on to become the greatest actor indian cinema had ever seen, bigger than even srk. And ruled the film industry as the no1 actor for two decades ,!! And the once charismatic superstar rajesh khanna , after 1974, started drinking and getting bitter and disappeared into his own drunken self. Majority of his films began to be huge flops, and he was never able to recover the superstardom he once had. He turned into an ugly overweight bum. Lost all his charisma. Producers refused to work with him , as he still remained arrogant and difficult to deal with, even though he no longer was a star. This is all true. The rivalry between rajesh khanna and amitabh bhachan remained until just before rajesh death in 2012, when amitabh took the first step to make up with him. It was a legendary rivalry in bollywood history. I suggest you watch the two films that made amitabh bhachan a star. Just do the watchalong with your family, or just you , your dad, and your sister. Your dad will love them , because the films are from his childhood era .his type of films Would love to see your dads reaction to them, in fact your whole familiy reaction to them. So just sit down with your family and grab some popcorn , do the watchalong with your family, and enjoy the ride. Two films that made amitabh bhachan a star are ; DEEWAR (1974) SHOLAY (1975) or the family entertainer AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY (1977) All three are classics. Go ahead and do the watchalong with your family, will be waiting !!

C'mon we need part 2 of this podcast . IT WAS SO GOOD 😍 After you did this this All Classical podcast, I'm sure now you get we call them the best musical period for music industry, just the sheer amount of talent at that time was insane., had goosebumps throughout the podcast. Kishore Kumar had some rare gifts. His technique involved singing directly into the mike. This made the song seem fluent and effortless. He could yodel very beautifully. He was the one who popularized yodelling in India and in the modern Indian music I think only Sonu Nigam is the one who did it. Also just a fun fact Asha Bhosle was married to RD Burman

How fantastic to watch your exploration of Bollywood’s ‘Golden Period’ 🙏👍😘. There is so much more so PLEASE do further similar reactions. Hope you noted that Latin rhythms & instruments featured through the 1950s onwards in popular Indian film music. The song by Lata is an all time classic alongside ‘Lag ja gale’ and one of many classics of Lata & composer Madan Mohan. Her voice changed every decade. My favourite of her voice is 60s to 90s & early 2000s. Someone bribed her cook once to poison her, but she survived and came back singing better than ever. Check out her vocals from 70s hit film Bobby - ‘Hum tum ek kamre mein bandh ho’. Also a duet with Manna Dey ‘Sub Kho diya’ from film Maqaar. The lower range ‘Apne aap raaton mein’ from film Rajnigandh. There was a 5 year period between 1962 to 1967 roughly when Lata & Mohammed Rafi did not sing together after a disagreement. This was a huge blow for the industry and their fans as their pairing was the most popular at the time. So during this period Late sang with Kishore & other male singers. Rafi sang Asha Bhosle & Lata soundalike Suman Kalyanpur. They were finally reconciled and resumed singing together from 1967, to everyone’s sheer joy. Composers who desperately wanted both voices on their songs recorded solo versions of the same song the songs and both would feature in the film or they would record their parts separately and these would be merged together. The Rafi songs in these clips were not amongst his most renowned songs and didn’t give a full idea of his range and abilities. Check out the ballad ‘Meri awaaz suno’ or the rocker ‘Jaan pehchan hai’ from film ‘Gumnaam’ or the torch song ‘Yeh duniya’ from 1970 film Heer Ranjha; or his live stunning heart wrenching performance of ‘Yeh duniya ke rakhwale’ or his duet with Asha Bhosle ‘Chura Liya hai’ from film Yaadon ki baraat’. He was the greatest playback singer ever but you’ve yet to discover uniqueness.

At 27:10, the time signature is of 7/7 beats in the structure 3-4/3-4. Roopak Taal in classical music. Look at 35:09, the guitarist plays the taal. The one for 49:30 or so, is 6/6 beats in the structure 3-3/3-3 - Dadra taal.
