@@LetThereBeDrums great job man. You’ve got great AC/DC feel. How do you tune the drum?
@LetThereBeDrums4 жыл бұрын
Ted Richardson Drummer thanks man! Tbh this drum sounds good in all tuning ranges but for AC/DC it has to be on the lower side of medium I would say. I always tried to replicate Phil's sound from a modern track where you can clearly hear the pitch of the snare, like the intro of Skies On Fire or Play Ball. I used to isolate a single snare hit in a program like Audacity to then analyze the spectrum of a short selection of the decay of the hit. Looking at the frequencies there are always 2 that stand out. The highest one I would tune my top head to, using a Tune-Bot, and the lowest one is the overall tone of the drum, which I would achieve by adjusting the bottom head. Always equal tension at all the lugs, not doing anything special near the snare beds. One moongel on the top head, the snare wires not too tight and we're good to go.

@@LetThereBeDrums awesome info. Sounds like your tribute band is lucky to have a Rudd fan with such attention to detail. I’m asking questions because I have an audition with a Bon-era tribute. Your videos have helped me prepare. If you don’t mind me asking one more: I also use a tune bot. What are your numbers for snare/toms? The whole kit sounds great by the way. You also resemble Phil’s style visually.

@@tedrichardsondrummer I don't have access to my drums atm but these are some numbers taken from my notes: snare top 259 and overall 178. My 16*16 floor was the easiest to tune and I had both heads around 99. The 13" tom was always the most difficult one, but I always aimed to have either C#, D or E overall pitch. Because these pitches are very low, I always had top and bottom equal. Acoustically this 13" never sounded great, but was perfect on the PA. I always aimed to have the 13 and 16 in a pleasing interval when hit together, e.g. for Thunderstruck (you know, the boom boom in Thun Dah). So an A (16") and a D (13") together was perfect. I sometimes went a bit higher to have a B and E together, especially in occasions where I also had an 18" floor, which then would get the A pitch. Hope this helps, and good luck with the auditions, man! Let me know how it went. Cheers!
