I have been driving the Baja for 4 months and it has been well worth all of the work it took, I didn't think it would get done with in a year even though I was planning on it, I also built the blue sand rail in that time.

Just saw this on theEZGZ! I wish I had seen this 10 years ago when I had 2 complete Bajas and 1 complete 72 bus! But I had just had a severe, carrer ending injury, and became depressed and disillusioned, needed cash, and sold all 3 for "pennies". Otherwise, after seeing this, I would be throwing on the coveralls and heading out the back door, lol!! Im a pretty big boy(6'3", 230), this rig would fit perfect, and give me something of real interest to do!!! Thanks for the "walk around", and thanks to theEZGZ for turning me on to this! Subscribed to both!!! Now i'll be out there "sniffin'" again, heh heh!!!

I hope this inspires you. A friend sold me the bus and the Baja, he suggested I put the Baja on the bus. He had different ideas on how it should have been put together, but I immediately knew how I was going to build it, it turned out better then expected. The biggest challenge was the steer, it took me 3 try’s and it’s almost perfect.

One of these days! Just picked up a chassis of a 1964 bus with all the suspension and a 1972 bus to build something on that frame, also will be used for parts for 2 other bus's I'm picking up. Way too many toys!

Thanks mike! I'm passionate about automobiles and when I get a wild hair to build one that's all I think about and I will ditch work to focus on my project, it's a sickness! I'm happy I can share this with you guys.

A little Coleman propane heater might take the chill off. I was thinking about the electric seat warmer for mine. Take care my friend
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
Howdy mr Ezgz, its funny I drove the Baja today and had my buddy warming it up before I took off, I found using a propane torch to warm up the intakes for a few minutes really makes a difference on startup and warm up time, I also have thought about heated seats and or a gas heater, I don't drive it in the snow but I do in cold weather.

I had to force myself to get the body work done, body work is not my favorite part of these projects but then I pick up a bus that needs a ton of body work, good thing it's 50% Windows!

Dang your finding all the good stuff,,, where I'm from, buses --well any VW stuff is abit hard to come by
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
In the western part of the country cars and trucks don't rust out and they are sitting everywhere. I wouldn't say there are a lot of bus's but they are around, I just happen to know a lot of people who are in to VW's or know I'm in to VW's.

"Mine too" ha ha! I've owned a few Baja bugs with 3x3's and body lifts, but I just couldn't get interested in them enough to finish them, this one I couldn't wait to get it done and start driving it, that bright red really draws attention.

Did you separate the body from the pan, before you mounted it to the van chassis?
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
I didn't need to because I had a second floor pan to use to test the frame for modifications, I notched and reinforced the front of the frame so I could get the bug pan to sit flat on the frame, I also had to cut the bug floor pans out under the seats where they drop down and make flat floor pans, the bug floor pan is welded to the bus frame.

Excellent job my friend,,, hope to talk to you more bout my 68
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment, I was fortunate to be starting with a rust free bug and bus, this helped a lot my 21 window bus is going to require a bit of rust and dent repair so when you start with your "68" try to find a doner bus that is not rusted out.
@Nitewatch-xc9yz7 жыл бұрын
You got a Manx buggy too😳
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
I have 2 fiberglass dune buggies and 2 fiberglass dune buggy body's in storage, these are no true Myers Manx buggy, the green buggy I'm going to try to restore and sell this year, I would also as is.

can I use any vw buss chassis?
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
I think so, I looked at a lot of different bus's and they look like they would work, what year bus were you thinking?
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
I chose the 1968-1970 because I like the wide 5 wheels and they make a lot of different kinds of wheels for that wheel patern, also they look stock.
@Nitewatch-xc9yz7 жыл бұрын
Kool,,, I just don't wanna chop up a good one
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
I don't cut up good bus's, although it's all relevant to what condition the vehicles your used to having around, because are cars are rust free here, if it's been hit has a little rust and no title it's a parts car.

The wheel base is the same from a bug, bus, thing, square back and ghia along with just about every air cooled Volkswagen back then.
