Walk Around Watchet. Somerset

A 20 minute walk around our home town, couldn't show it all, just picked a few bits....more to come.

Daws Castle at Watchet . Completely overgrown can be accessed by proceding up the hill about a 100 yards out of Watchet on the Blue Anchor road and as you come to the second bend in the road there is a concealed driveway which leads to the courtyard of the castle. Once inside the castle ruins you can see remains of ovens and other structures. Can also be reached by walking on the coastal path from Watchet towards Blue Anchor .

Great little place very relaxed and laid back . unspoilt and no tattoo parlors nor amusement arcades . But, why isn't the castle being preserved ? a 8th century castle completely overgrown with weeds and stingers , thought to date prior to King Alfred and now a ruin, being ruined even more by unofficial fires and parties in the castle courtyard. English heritage ought to sell it rather than hasten its demise.
