The album that broke the rules of R&B music was Isaac Hayes’ 1969 masterpiece Hot Buttered Soul. That album became the biggest selling album in the history of Stax Records selling over 3.5 million copies and it spent ten consecutive weeks at number one on the R&B album charts on August 23- October 25,1969 and it was also a top ten pop album peaking at number eight for three weeks on October 25-November 8,1969. The remakes of Dionne Warwick’s Walk On By and Glen Campbell’s By The Time I Get To Phoenix were classics and Isaac did outstanding psychedelic R&B versions of both songs. Hot Buttered Soul paved the way for not only his soundtrack album of Shaft in 1971 after his next two albums in 1970,it also paved the way for Curtis Mayfield’s first solo album Curtis from 1970,Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On from 1971,albums by Stevie Wonder during his classic period of 1972-76 and later Al Green and Barry White. In my opinion,I enjoyed Isaac’s first few albums from Hot Buttered Soul from 1969 to Joy in 1973.

I told my sidekick to stand by the main board while I went behind the large stage rig to check about a thousand connections. I told him to pop in the cd I brought from home and then do a quick check on the announcer's wireless mic. He took forever to do the mic check and apologized. He said there was a line of over 100 people and they all were thanking him for playing Walk On By. He said some had tears in their eyes while telling him how it was the favorite tune of their mom, dad, brother, sister, best friend etc. Some even hugged him. Amazing how music means so much to us.

The Real sound sex machine was Isaac Hayes over James Brown or Stevie Wonder. Marvin Gaye and Barry White, were the only other ones to come close to the power and presence of Isaac Hayes. They were certainly a force to be reckoned with when it came to soul music. Miss their musical genius.

Notice the clarity of MrH Music. Not loud no profanity and yet he was a Million Dollar sell out wherever he play. How about wearing gold chains leading an orchestra in tuxedos on a piano. Every song he Sang anywhere would make people stop listen sit quiet & just STARE. That's POWER THAT IS NOT SEEN TODAY.
