I often hear "YA" in Korean films. Yun pala ang ibig sabihin ng "YA". I also often hear "ARASO" which I think means "OK". Also with "WEH" which I think means "why". The youth copied it but they mean it differently, like "O? Bola!", or "O? Totoo?"

In fact, it is very rude to say "HOY" to someone older than you! It is unacceptable. But if you saw a stranger or an intruder in your house, you will say, "HOY! ANU YAN? HINDI IKAW ANG BUMILI NYAN!" hahahaha!

Hello Dasuri씨 Kain tayo! first offer - you are supposed to say no (sige ho, salamat) this is meant to be a polite gesture -> Filipinos feel uneasy eating while somebody (not eating) is watching them eat... of course this is quite opposite to Korean customs where you are not supposed to say no to an offer of food... second offer sige na, kain tayo! the one offered will now think, "is this offer really sincere?" your response would be "sige lang ho, salamat" third offer sige na! kain tayo! (more emphatic than the 2nd offer, with matching hila of your hand...) with this you will know that there is extra food and that the one offering really meant to share the food

I'll try to answer the questions din. 1.) "Kain po" just shows how welcoming Filipinos are and respects unexpected guests. Try approaching people when they say that and they will be glad to share their food kahit na century tuna lang yung kinakain nila. the question is... are you going to eat it? haha because sharing food in PH is very casual. 2.) "Sige po" is actually a expression of respect. Older people have traditions that you CANNOT say no to any food that is offered to you. so since people usually, have an excuse to eat and eat and eat, they say "sige po" like saying "thank you, please go ahead and continue eating." to subtly say no to finishing all their food. 3.) Serving spoon - You're correct in saying it's the korean tradition that you either finish it or throw it away. Filipinos use serving spoon because we usually cook our food in bulk. If you have 1 kilo of pork, we cook 1 kilo of adobo that can last for the whole so anybody who wants to eat it can just heat up the food anytime without spoilage. Second is traditional Filipinos don't like to see rice floating in their food, it's rude for some or dirty to for others. But overall, i guess the biggest factor is not to spoil the food. :) 4.) Tutong... a lot of Filipinos looooove tutong! It's just that you cannot serve any guests tutong because it's like serving them the worst portion of the cooked rice. Tutong are usually left behind but what we do is we make them fried rice in the morning! :) 5.) "malapit na!" ... ugh that's the worst Filipino culture... being really late. Filipino time is really that you really have to adjust the meeting time 30 mins or 1 hr earlier in order for you to meet them exactly the time you're supposed to meetup. 6.) "psst" is actually a subtle way of getting someone's attention. but beware because it's actually rude for Filipino as we usually use it to get our pet's attention or someone really young.

8 months na tong comment na to, pero nasabi naman ni Tita na yun yung mostly na reason kung bakit may serving spoon, para hindi nga mapanis, pero most of us din kasi, partly the reason din is yun nga rin, 'nandidiri' tayo, lalo na kapag masyado kang hygienic or like di mo gusto yung tira ng iba, hindi mo gugustuhin na kainin yung pagkain na dinip na ng ibat-ibang kutsara, lalo na pag dumaan lahat yung kutsarang yun sa bibig nila.
@zhkdlsoo5 жыл бұрын
to explain the "kain tayo" tama na hospitality kasi nakakahiya minsan na kumakain ka tapos yung bisita mo nakatunganga lang so pwede mo sila alukin ng pagkain. kahit konti lang yung food, we usually still give whatever we can dahil sa hiya. kung icocompare sa korean culture di ba madalas sinasabi ng mga adults "많이 먹어~" pero it doesn't mean na marami talaga kakainin mo and yet you say "네~" out of courtesy. pati yung "ay sige po" for rejecting the food, it's saying "ay sige okay lang po ako kayo na po ang kumain" so rejecting in a polite manner. to compare again with korean culture, it's like "아니에요~" when you're given a compliment. it doesn't mean that you don't agree pero pahumble lang ganon hehe about sa serving spoon, true na medyo nakakadiri nang slight pag marami kumakain tapos parang halo halo na yung laway sa ulam hahaha true rin na dahil para hindi mapanis. yes nagkakamay yung iba pero ayun nga sa sariling plate naman hehe for tutong naman, i guess dahil sa init ng pilipinas hindi namin gusto na ganun din kadry yung pagkain hahaha (for me ganun) pero yung tutong kasi na pinakita niyo is iba dun sa tutong talaga na as in sunog na wala na talagang gustong kumain kasi nga burned na hahaha then about sa "psst", yes it is actually rude. just like in korean language, there are things that you can only say to youe friends or people you're close with (반말). "psst" is one of those. do be careful though. "psst" is usually said by catcallers or yung mga bastos lalo na sa mga girls. so when you hear it in a public place, try your best na hindi lumingon as to not give them any attention.

Having different serving spoon for each ulam prevents the food from spoiling faster. Besides, it depends on the person whom you're eating with if they're fine sharing sawsawan with you, this usually happens between close family members or friends. skl

When filipino says "Kain tayo", it means, buy your own meals but let's eat together. 😂 But if they are eating and they say let's eat while you are passing by or they saw you, it means you're friends or acquaintance and they respect you. It's part of our culture, and whether you say yes or no, doesn't matter. It's just the way we are.

"Kain po tayo?" Ang pwede pong isagot is "ok lang po ako" ibigsabihin kumain kana or ayaw mo pero in polite way po... pwede rin pon ung "sige po" nakabatay sa tono minsan sa action rin po ng ulo....
@awwwcomeon2 жыл бұрын
i'd say the "sige po" is more of an acknowledgement than an agreement. it's more like saying "ok, thank you, go ahead" than saying "yes, i accept your invitation/offer"

Generally calling anyone in the Philippines is considered as "unrespectful" but since only Filipinos do such a thing, it became something like as if it is a culture that is normally accepted. NO WE DON'T. "Psst" is a bad culture we have but a culture that has been popularly known to foreigners and Filipinos laugh at. Doesn't mean that we say okay

We use serving spoon to avoid contamination. We dont want the food to taste like others' saliva esp if you eat with people you are not close to...like in birthday dinner etc..there are other quests you dont know...to also avoid catching viruses that will make you sick. But if youre eating with your spouse alone...its okay not to use serving spoon...after all you kiss each other.

Ang style nila main dish plus kanin plus maraming side dish then naka-chopsticks lang tapos minsan, naka lagay pa sa solong plate yung side dish per tao kaya no need talaga for serving spoon. Kaya panisnin nyo kapag kumain kayo sa Japanese or Korean resto, di rin uso serving spoon not unless for sharing yung dish pero kapag mga local pinoy resto like Classic Savory, Aristocrat, Kuya J, kelangan talaga ng serving spoon kapag family meals kase mostly de sarsa or may sabaw yung mga ulam.

First reason, to show hospitality. It feels awkward, something ganun. Sa pagsagot nama, we always say "Sige LANG po" or "Ok lang po" to refuse in a polite way. Just like, yung kutsara mo sinusubo mo tas isasandok mo sa ulam just like duhh. diba? Pero, hindi lahat pina-practice ito. Commonly, pina-practice lang to for formality lakie kung may bisitang dumating. Tapos sinabawan ang ulam nyo like urgggggg luhmeh. But in a polite way, kung tatawagin mo yung isang tao na 'di mo kilala, madalas ginagamit namin ang "Miss" o "Kuya", "sir" ganun. perong yung "psst" talaga is pagtawag in a rude way.

Just to clarify the part about pag aaya thing (kain tayo) The first one is yung tatanggi ka Its ok to say " sige lang po salamat" its a respectful way ng pagtanggi and the 2nd way is "sige po" it means kakain ka ..

Scorched rice is good but should not be mostly burnt. Instead serve garlic fried rice if preferred. Serving spoon is needed mostly if you have two or more dishes served so as not to mix flavors between/among dishes and also prevent spoilage. When someone tries to call you using "psst", ignore. I always tell people, I have a name and I only respond to my name because it is my own that identifies me first hand and is given by my parents.

FYI, 'tutong' is normally not served to guests as the implication is there is no more cooked rice left since this is the hard rice that's at the bottom of the cooking pot. However we Filipinos do eat and enjoy "tutong".
