Guess his wording choice in the interview could have been clearer - may have meant something along the lines of “I was born into a Sikh family”, or “raised in a Sikh home.” Underlying point I was trying to make, is that as a Sikh, he must have felt the gravity of his orders / it must have been traumatizing. It’s the most sacred place for followers of that religion. If he really viewed Operation Bluestar as another day in the office (and carried out his orders without a second thought), then he a) doesn’t really believe himself to be a Sikh, b) doesn’t have a conscience, or c) can’t express himself freely in the context of this interview. Would a Christian soldier conduct a violent operation at the Sepulcher without a second thought? He certainly could, but not without some thought imo.

Like all relegious extremist leaders , he wanted nothing but a country to rule i.e khalistan. If you actually give it a thorough read, the anandpur sahina resolution had one main demand, i.e an independent government of Punjab having all powers and then there were dummy demands to make it look like the militants were standing for the good. Bhinderwale killed 140 Hindus and 49 Sikhs who opposed khalistan. He lived in a place that Sikhs revere so much so that they don't step inside it, ( i.e akal takth). The army made a number of announcements pleading the leader or surrender or to atleast let the civis out, but he didn't budge. Many Sikhs consider bhinderwale to be a guru, but for once just imagine who you are comparing the man to. You are comparing him to the great Guru Teg Bahadur, who sacrific his life for his people . Instead this man used them as human Shields. As regards the riots that happened in 1984, I'm sorry. Nothing can bring back loved ones. As a Hindu I feel ashamed that my fellow Hindus carried out a gruesome massacre. But that in no way justifies, some Sikhs protecting and revering a terrorist i.e bhinderwale. I'm sorry if I offended you , but that's the truth. You must also realize that there were 2 sikh battalions who carried out the operation and none of the brave Sikhs backed out , because they saw from their own eyes how bhinderwale and shehbag Singh were misguiding people. The problem in Punjab was purely political where the Congress wanted to weaken the Akalis and stay in power there till eternity and when challenged they messed the situation up. They should have agreed to the Anandpur Sahib resolution because I don't see any unreasonable demand in them. Had they done that there would have been no Bindranwale, no Sikh militancy issue.
