We love that campground. We try to go twice a year. We like Indian Creek Campground and Cades Cove Campground also. We like site 20 at mile high. That's our favorite.

@NCMemoryMakers Indian creek is really nice. You can drive from mile high to Indian creek by Bunches creek rd. Just don't take a camper down that road. We noticed at mile high on site 20 at night you can see campfires down below with binoculars it is really cool. Not sure what campgrounds it was. Might have been Indian creek? We tried to use Google earth to figure it out but just gave up and enjoyed the view

Nice campground. Back in the late 60’s and ‘70’s my parents would take us camping in The Smokies. We usually stayed at Dudley Creek Campground in Gatlinburg (not there anymore) and there was another one in Cherokee but I don’t remember it’s name. It had a river nearby (front of it) and that’s when we were hiking and came upon Mingo Falls. Another gorgeous waterfall in the area!! Thank you Derrick and Shawnasi for all the wonderful memories and reminiscing I’ve had following the two of you!

We really appreciate you watching. I don't know if you've seen them or not, but we have a couple of videos on Mingo Falls and Soco Falls. You mentioned a Dudley Creek Campground in Gatlinburg. We usually stay at the Sleepy Bear Motel, and Dudley Creek flows right behind it. I'm trying to place where the campground was from there.

@@NCMemoryMakers gosh, its been many many years but if my memory serves me correctly the entrance was right off of Hwy. 321 in Gatlinburg near Dudley Creek Road that ran alongside. I think there’s some sort of Resort or maybe condos there now, or again before the fires they were there. It was a developer who bought the property and build them, I believe they were built similar to a log cabin, maybe had red roofs; don’t quote me on that. Do you remember where the Putt Putt place use to be alongside the road in Gatlinburg? It was very close to that, if I remember correctly because our parents use to let us walk to go play Putt Putt. I’m sure it’s the same river that runs behind the Sleepy Bear Motel. This campground had a beautiful river run through it. Funny story, we were camping there one year and we put a fresh watermelon in the river to get cold, it started to rain, the river rose and I tried to catch the watermelon before it got swept downstream. Guess who also got swept downstream? Haha Me, good thing I was good swimmer and got out pretty quickly. Again, many moons ago but so many wonderful memories made here. I’m watching your Mingo Falls and and Soco Falls (snow one) as I type this. I’m anxious to see it, because I’ve never seen Mingo Falls in the snow. I don’t know if I’m familiar with Soco Falls, I’ll keep you posted as I watch. Maybe I’ve seen it and didn’t know it’s name. I apologize for not knowing the exact location of Dudley Creek Campground, but I’m going to my parents tomorrow, my dad might remember.

I will pick up my new teardrop off-road trailer in two weeks and head straight to Mile high campground. I booked site 24a . I can’t wait and the view is amazing from the pictures. I’ll make sure to eat one of those famous hamburgers too .

Well, I’ll have to tell you this , I absolutely loved the campground, site 24a is wonderful. I picked up my new teardrop camper from the factory in IN and headed to mile high. I got camp set up and went to bed early that first night. I had been almost 1000 miles into my trip from MS. The next am I got up early and headed out to Clingmans , it was a clear day. Well… the Lord had other plans for me that day. That am was very cool, windows were down on my way up the mountain. Approx one mile past Smokemont my left brake seized up and caught fire. All I had was five bottled waters. I was able to put it out and get back to Smokemont. No cell service at all. I saw that I couldn’t go any further. I prayed and 30 seconds later the security volunteers from Smokemont came by and ask if I needed help. They gave me a ride into Cherokee to the Napa store for parts. To my surprise they had all parts in stock for my one ton truck, not common at all . I was able to get it fixed enough to get back to camp. I went into the old baptist church at Smokemont , got on my knees and thanked the Lord for keeping me safe during my brake failure . I saw BJ s on the way to Napa but didn’t get to go back. What I saw that day was greater than any mountain site that you could possibly see , the Lord at work though awesome people. I will most certainly be back and for my truck, it passed brake inspection before I started on my trip but it’s getting all new brake components. Thanks for the awesome video

32:28 Enjoyed your videos of Mile High campground. Someone may have already commented about that gravel road to Cherokee you pointed out. It’s been some years that we experienced it but it can be great fun. We had friends who camped at one of the campgrounds on Big Cove Rd in Cherokee. We would load up bicycles and ride our bikes down that road, I think it’s called Bunches Creek, don’t hold me to that. It’s downhill almost all the way, except for a stretch if my memory hasn’t failed me. Someone followed along behind in our truck and we would swap out drivers to let everyone enjoy the easiest mountain bike ride ever. It’s a beautiful ride/drive. We’ve also made that trip in a van, but the more clearance the better. The road dead ends into Big Cove Rd just pass a creek. There wasn’t a bridge st that time so we rode through the creek enjoying splashing water everywhere. There’s probably a bridge there now.

To clarify. Family with memories better than me said they thought on the other side of that ride through creek this road became paved and it was still just a bit before the interaction with Big Cove. We were ready to load up the bikes at that creek crossing!

My wife and I have camped at Mile High since it opened. The site numbering system was very "organic". For example, the sites between 11 and 12 didn't exist when it first opened. As more sites were added, the decision was made to not renumber, but to add alphanumeric IDs to the new sites. Thus, 11A and 11AA. Mile High campground is my favorite campground, period. No other place like it in the world that I'm aware of.

I did not see any bear boxes. In fact, since this campground is outside the National Park boundary, they didn't even have a lot of the same regulations about food storage, that National Park campgrounds have. I was surprised, since there are still bears in that area.

Brochure says this campground is on Cherokee reservation. Walk throughs at the campgrounds are very helpful.

Yes, I wasn't sure when I did the intro, but once I read it in the brochure, I pointed out that it was on the reservation. I'm glad you find this helpful. I do it, so that anybody who is thinking about booking a reservation there, can kind of get a visual as to which site they want.

We saw lights on in the men's bathroom one time, but it was dark mostly. I would suggest taking a lantern or light source, just in case. Glad you enjoyed it!

It's a great campground, and we were well satisfied. They provide a nice clean place to take a shower, which is more than many do. You'll have to take the grills up with them. We don't have anything to do with that, except to show what is there.

I think they actually are, as I believe they stay open through October? I'd have to check to be sure.
