Our cannas are prolific. We gave many away last year. If you want some we'll be dividing them again.

I’d like to hear more about why you are using growing bags and how they are working out.

Hi @GammyGirl-gc2em . Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the delay in responding. We've been using grow bags for years and they're great. We've used them for cannas, potatoes, etc. but the reason we used them in Garden East is because we ran out of planter bed space. We have so many cannas, we actually ran out of space in our planter beds, lol. But next year, we're going to be relocating Cannova Row to another part of the property. Stay tuned ... ;-) Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

J&D - I want to Ty for getting me into Cannas. Love the videos! Please include what happened with Thai Ray, Striped Beauty and Blueberry Sparkler if possible. Also, if you have had any luck with Whithelm Pride? 😊

Hi @michellegine7063 . Thanks for comment. Glad you like our videos and new to the canna family :-) . I think you're referencing a few of the Walk Through videos. First of all, we wound up losing the Striped Beauty in a flood :-( . The Blueberry Sparkler was a little bit of a disappointment - it turned out to be regular Black Knight (which is NOT a disappointment) but we were looking forward to seeing a pink bud. As far as the Thai Pink, that I spoke about in this year's video, you can check out the ones we have in our Garden North Walk Through video that we just posted this week. You can check it out here: @michellegine7063 . Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

I live in North Carolina. Will all this varieties grow here ? Also beautiful collection!

Hi @animationai9109 . Thanks for the comment and compliment. Sorry for the delay in responding. Absolutely! They can pretty much grow anywhere, within reason. It's just a matter of how long they will last and that depends on when you get your 1st frost. For instance, we start ours outside mid-April and depending on the frost, they can survive into December. Again, depending on when you get your 1st frost. Not sure when you get your 1st frost in North Carolina but they'll definitely grow well for several months. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

You mentioned you split Batman several times. Can you tell me about the proper way to do that mid growing season please. Reference 4:20

Hi @GammyGirl-gc2em . Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the delay in responding. When splitting, there's no difference whether it's small or large plants. We actually have a video on that. You can check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGLCp4ace9-Zb7csi=9bM_cUBw_YBzvDcE . If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

How do you keep them so neat and tidy so they dont spread?
@jdgardensnj4563
@jdgardensnj4563 15 күн бұрын
Hi @sandeeramm3968 . Thanks for reaching out. Well, it's alot of hard work, keeping them trimmed and groomed but it does become a labor of love :-) . But I will say, it's been getting more difficult as we add more cannas to each planter bed. As far stopping the rhizomes from growing into each other, we add dividers in the ground before we plant to stop that from that happening. You can see an example of that in a short video that we made here: kzbin.infoxzQVailx1u4?si=4SkE9cUcNmE69Qba. We will be doing our 2024 garden Walk Through video this weekend. So keep an eye out for it in the upcoming week or so. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

My canna seeds sprouted tiny shoots but didn't grow. Will they regrow next year or is the seed now dead?
@jdgardensnj4563
@jdgardensnj4563 11 ай бұрын
Hi @Jamessemaj-fw8ou . Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the delay in responding. I think what you're saying is that you germinated some seeds and planted them and they didn't grow? If that's the case, then NO unfortunately, they won't grow next year. You'll have to re-germinate seeds and plant new ones. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

do you have a problem with japanese beetles? They decimate my cannas every year and I have tried everything to keep them under control!
@jdgardensnj4563
@jdgardensnj4563 7 ай бұрын
Hi @nickpate8652 . Thanks for the comment. Absolutely! That and rolling caterpillars. The obvious thing would be to visual inspect as often as you can and knock them away. But if you grow as many as we do, we would suggest spraying them down with Neem oil. We just left a couple of links for a regular bottle and a concentrated one in the description of the video. That should work fine for you. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

Did you put garden fabric in your beds? I’m debating if I should add garden fabric or not.

Hi @royalty12 . Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for reaching out to us. We suggest that you do because you never know what can grow through the bottom. We just made a video how the roots of an old tree still grow through. You can watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGTKaGeVhrynjZIsi=O265RpLc8zTqHfMj . Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

I had the same dilemma and I’ve decided to grow a low ground cover which is hardy enough to withstand foot traffic and suppress the growth of weeds. There are several types that will work well.
