Walk with me | Ep. 04 - Udaipur, Rajasthan | Stunning Ropeway Views From Karni Mata Temple India

rrahulvverma@gmail.com | Udaipur, Rajasthan, India | Dec, 2023 : This video starts in the narrow lanes of the walled city of Udaipur, also called the Old City of Udaipur. Interestingly, Old Udaipur is older than the Old Delhi of Delhi, also called Chandni Chowk. We pass through these narrow lanes in an auto-rickshaw and reach our destination just beside Lake Pichola.
The destination was the point from where Ropeways for the Karni Mata Temple start their ascent. We wait for quite some time at this spot before taking our ropeway up towards the temple. The ropeway takes us above the slope of this hill on top of which this temple is located. On our way up we notice exquisite views of the lakes on one side and the forested slopes of the hill on the other. From our beautiful vantage point not only do we clearly notice the Lake Pichola in the distance but we also notice the smaller lake closer to us called Doodh Talai.
In a few minutes we reach the top of the hill from where the views are even more incredible and expansive. From here we have some more climbing to do, this time on our feet, before we finally reach the Temple. This climb is quite enjoyable though with stunning views on both of our sides because the ropeway already brought up to almost the top of this hill. We notice the Udaipur city stretching as far as the eye can see on one side while the beautiful Lake Pichola and Doodh Talai is on the other side. We also notice the City Palace as well as Jag Mandir Palace from this elevation.
The final destination is of course the famous temple of Karni Mata who is the goddess of the Rajput Royal family and is revered all across this region. Of course, as they say, the journey was as good as the destination in this case. Karni Mata Temple is actually inhabited by a lot of rats as well because it is believed that Karni Mata was fond of rats. It is also believed that one of her children was transformed into a rat and a lot of her relatives had also chosen to transform themselves into rats to be with that child - such is the religious mythology as they say. Karni Mata is actually believed to have been born as an actual human before her ascension to a goddess. She was born in the 1300s it is believed. The Karni Mata Temple was built many hundred years ago in her reverence - sometime in the 1600s.
