Yes it is quiet, but can get very busy in the Summer with visitors.

Brings back a lot of memories when the family moved there in 1954 - my father was the headmaster!!! All the herring fishing has gone and the 2 remaining boats (belonging to classmates from my primary school period) are now based in Ullapool . . . .lot of worse places to be brought up in!!!

@alasdairwreid I would imagine that Avoch hasn't changed much since 1954. Definitely a great place to be brought in! I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. 👍

We used to come to Avoch twice a year for holidays back in the 1970s when I was a small child. It’s lovely to see it hasn’t changed too much in the last 50 years, although that community garden used to be the location of a petrol station back in the 70s, before being transformed into a small cafe. The large whitewashed building with the steps up to the 1st floor on the outside, opposite the entrance to the harbour, used to be the Ship’s Chandlers, which was full of everything the local fishermen needed, when Avoch had a thriving fishing fleet. In fact, that house on Shore Street at the bottom of James Street - with the whitewashed wall facing the seas - was our house. Thanks for bringing back some awesome childhood memories mate 👌

@@Brummie-In-The-Highlands Thanks in part to you, I’ve now been inspired to make a trip back up to Avoch to stay for a week with my sister, to remember our most brilliant childhood, where we used to come up here twice a year for more than a decade, all the way from Hampshire, for our most brilliant holidays in a place close to where my family comes from. We’ll be staying a few houses up from our original house on the sea front and will return our parent’s ashes to the place that meant so much to all of us, with so many happy family memories… Your video reminded me of how much we all loved our time in Avoch, so thank you mate 🙏

The Scottish Water cottage in Henrietta Street houses electrical switching gear for the underground pumps across the road from it. The equipment is all contained in one downstairs room, the rest is pretty much empty. The cottages date back to the early 1800's and are all Category B listed. I've never heard of any of them being connected with the harbour before though.

Yes I agree it is a good chippy, it's been closed for a couple of weeks now, so I'm not sure what's happened.

Good news, I've just found out that chippy is just having a break and reopens on the 27th November. 😀
