Well done for nursing it back on the road. Believe me the 2 litre pinto is a magnificent powerful hard nut of an engine. This engine tuned and kept right will keep up with any competition. I had injection capris, yet favoured the pinto any day.

Love that car. Having had the pleasure of seeing it in the flesh recently, I'm amazed how different it looks to those early photos! Glad you're a member of the electric aerial gang, too. Youngsters these days don't know what they're missing out on 😂

I had one just like that it was a red 1986 I got it in about 2006 hardly any rust in it I made a few small changes put a 3ltr new carb on it and changed the five speed gearbox for a four speed racing gearbox and finished it off with a set of wider 3ltr wheels it was amazingly fast for a 2ltr sold it and got a 4x4 in the end it was a bit low for my old joints getting in and out of it.

Had a Capri 2-litre Laser once. A couple of years older than this & black in colour. Bought it when it was just a few years old & Ford dealers were sill flogging them on their used car forecourts. Even back then I saw it pretty much as a classic. On those lines ahead of it's time. Even had the same stereo radio/cassette yours has. Also had an electric aerial but packed up so replaced it with a conventional one. The 2-litre engine did have some poke & was ideal for those whose budget didn't quite extend to an Injection. Didn't like the black surrounds for the dials so I "chromed" mine & it really stood out well, giving it an early period feel. Certainly one car I wish I still had.

The 1.6's are interference engines. If they snap the cambelt the pistons hit the valves. 2 litre one get away with it. I bought my red 2.8i in August 1991 and a MK1 3 litre GT ford capri that is now an ETCC ford works touring car replica in blue and white with 16 inch 3 piece split rims and a box arch body kit with a duck tail spoiler. There was that much wrong with it that it should have been scrapped and become a pile of spares. Guy I bought it from used it for drag racing!!!It's quicker than the 2.8i.

You've done a Sterling job on this, absolutely beautiful.... Does the Sunroof still wind back too? A lot of people don't dare try them... Luckily mine still does, but I keep it well lubed.... For your seat, try Mike at MT Trimmers. Best of luck.👍👍👍
