Very satisfying to see the paint scrape off after sitting overnight.

I have some options potentially. Also, I borrowed a welder from a neighbor a couple weeks back just in case I'm the welding option... never done it before, so my first cracks at it were not pretty or structurally sound, but I'll keep practicing and get better. Either way, I hope this is the least of the opportunities encountered...I foresee more opportunities at the end of the series when I'm at the final stages of assembly and calibration, but until then. Thanks for watching and commenting Dammy!

On something as lightly damaged as that, consider a vinegar bath. 4 to 6 hours, no more, then warm wash with a heavy baking soda content, then dry and polish. If much is needed, sanding can screw with the squareness of the deck, so avoid it until the end. The vinegar will extract any rust from deep inside the pores of cast iron. But more is not better, in terms of soak time! Chemical dip as little as possible to achieve the result and neutralize as quickly as possible once you remove it.

I experimented with the vinegar method on this base, which will be in the next vid; it worked wonderfully. Stay tuned!

I also found that applying a thick coat of paint stripper first, like strypease, really speeds things up and allows you to reduce the time that the vinegar is left on the surface. That's helpful because the vinegar can seriously etch the metal if left too long. I applied the paint stripper, waited about an hour, got it all off and started the vinegar process. In addition to removing the paints and glue, for whatever reason, it soaks into the rust and sort of pre-loosens it. Looking forward to seeing your saw completed, great job so far!@@ForestWoodworks

Do you know anyone who does tack welding to get that part fixed? I like how you redefine any setbacks as opportunities. Positive attitude.

I’m currently restoring my walker turner at this time! Can you tell me where I might get a fenc for my table saw?

Hey! Sure, definitely check eBay and Marketplace. Also, Jeff at Walker Turner Serviced Machinery in Connecticut may have one. I was able to get various parts from him that were not available on eBay or elsewhere. Here's his email: wtservice@walkerturnerllc.com Good luck with your restoration!

Where did you find a vendor for the three small drive belts? I haven't had any luck. My belts are stamped AC TEX ROPE but the size or part number is not able to be read.

I haven't resembled this saw yet, I'm still on the paint phrase, but I still have the two belts that came with it. Mine are standard v-belts and I measure the length when they are in need of replacement. I've actually bought v-belts for my jointer from Amazon. Does this help?

I ordered mine from either MSC or McMaster Carr, I'll need to do some digging to find my information. You can order from either one from their online catalogs. Shipping from MSC is expensive but they will put in on your doorstep the next day.

That slot next to the throat plate... is that factory, or did someone cut that? What's it's purpose? Thanks

Thanks for asking. That slot is manufactured into the table and it provides clearance for the elevation of the blade.

I don’t think that it’s for elevation. It probably access to the arbor to change the blade.

If you still have your saw apart, would you mine measuring the circumference of your belts? I need new belts, the catalog I looked in has belts with outside length in even inches, my old belts measure 15 3/4". The catalog shows 15", 16" and so on. If you have the time and opportunity to do so I would appreciate it. Also, what color are you going to use?

Hey Gary! I still haven't decided on a color yet. But last weekend I was recording the trunnion disassembly and cleaning when I found a crack in one side of the trunnion system. Spent all week looking into fixing it, but I'm getting thin on options. If I can't get this repaired, the whole project is done. I'll respond later today with the belt size. Thanks for watching and commenting!

So the belts I have are 4L170. One measured 17" outside circumference. I put a piece of masking tape on the outside face of the belt and put a mark. Starting with the mark touching my table I placed a mark on my table. I then rolled the belt and marked the table again once the belt mark touched down again. Measuring between the two marks was 17". Does that get you the measurement you need?

@@ForestWoodworks Hi, my belts aren't that wide nor that long, your machine is different than mine. I would suggest watching Ebay for parts, from time to time someone will take apart an old saw and sell parts. Thank-you for your reply.

@@garyvanrheenen181 Walker-Turner Services in Connecticut seems like the place to go. I spoke to Jeff today and I've got a replacement trunnion frame in the mail. Might be a good place for you to check out as they seem to carry a lot of replacement parts. I am so thrilled my project can continue! Check back soon as I get this trunnion system video done and uploaded. Take care!

Where did you find a catalog for parts and part numbers? What model is your saw? I have three small belts. 3/8" wide at top 1/4" bottom and about 15 1/2" in circumference.
