Walking .... around West Park

West Park in Wolverhampton is one of 3 major parks in the city. In the C19th it was the race course, which is why the path around its' inside boundary is a mile long. At the end of the Victorian period it was converted into a park. Today it is at the heart of a conservation area, with some attractive buildings surround it. It is a green oasis right next to the city centre.
The park is well used. In the early morning, especially on a Saturday and Sunday, you will find plenty of runners and joggers. Cyclists, joggers, walkers, dog walkers, and families all frequent the park throughout the day. It has a good play ground for young children, lots of flowers in season, an array of fascinating trees (which are now being marked up with information boards to tell us what they are), a number of tennis courts, an outdoor gym, a conservatory, and the old parade ground.
Concerts, travelling ammusement parks, and mnuch else visit the park. During the Commonwealth Games recently, it hosted the beginning and end of one of the cycling road races.
