I think the show has suffered a bit after the departures of Little Carl, Rick, Tara, Jesus Enid, Henry, Maggie, and Morgan. Now Michonne (Danai) is also leaving. I love Daryl and Carol and they are amazing characters, yet the last 2 original characters standing. After all these years they have managed to keep their characters alive. So many have come and gone. The show isn't what it used to be and it's such a shame. New writers and new characters have seemed to drag the show down somewhat. Last season alone the did away with key characters in such a way that it made no sense how or why they were killed off. I honestly believe it's a salary issue. Actors that have been on TWD for years demand higher salaries as time goes by and their characters become popular...new actors hired take less pay. Such a shame that money seems to decide everything. I also didn't like the fact that the new writers jumped 6 years into the future with no explanation or reason behind it. I'll continue watching the show to see it through to the end but honestly if they kill off Daryl or Carol...I won't riot, I'll just quietly stop watching it. I nearly did in season 8.

I love the show, but I feel like it is coming up to a great opportunity to polish things off nicely, and really should be thinking about it from a story standpoint. Hear me out. Rick is gone, possibly at the commonwealth doing stuff an thangs. So instead of Elodie being the link between the two communities, now we have a Rick. The show is at the Whisperer arc, and after that, in the comics, they move on to the Commonweath arc. They plan on 3 Rick movies, one each year for the next three years. There will in all likeliness be three more seasons in that time as well. So to tie up, they should spend two seasons dealing with the Whisperers, or maybe make up a new threat to tide over, then have one more season that leads up to the commonwealth. Then they close off with the last Rick movie. Perhaps have Rick and Michonne die(permanently) and hand over the Carl comic role to Daryl, Carol, or Judith(maybe Negan?), telling the story of Rick Grimes to RJ. Closing shot, the statue of Rick Grimes. I envision an upward angle, as to be looking up at the statue. Or an above angle, that slowly pans out to reveal the whole community built around the Rick statue, like symbolism. If Daryl is the one reading to RJ and essentially being the Carl, then Carol should be the judge and Maggie be the pres. Or Judith as pres, remembering the massive time jump between Ricks death and the closing in the comic. This also takes into account the possible departure of Maggie. AMC at this point will have ended off the show that some say has or is becoming stale, on a high note. And then they will still be makin a profit off of FTWD and the new series they just announced. Protects their pockets and their reputation. More than likely, AMC will just run all of it into the ground.

@B M But see, my logic here is, why would Daryl be reading the story to RJ if Michonne is still alive and well? It would make much more sense and be much more symbolic to kill Rick and Michonne, leaving RJ to be raised by Uncle Dixon. Then Carol could be judge, and Judith as pres, unless Maggie comes back. Then Judith could be like Mercer. Or maybe as Judge, and make Carol like Mercer? Carol would fit the roles of fair minded judge and badass bodyguard/soldier equally well, so I guess it really could be a toss up. I will agree with the Negan part here though. They should at least give us one last meaningful dialogue between Daryl and Negan, or at least one other familiar old timer. Anything more than what the comic gave us.
