Thank you very much for the info on the dynamic walking foot. I ordered it today because my regular walking foot does not do decorative stitches. Yes, dynamic walking ft is pricey but as long as it works and do what it’s supposed to do, I’ll be happy. Thanks again to you.

Hello, first time at your channel and a new subscriber. I believe I'm at the right place. Very clearly explained. I've just very recently learnt how to use a sewing machine. However, I've always been a hand sewing person fixing my clothes or doing crafts by hand. I will need your help. I want to sew some quilted placemats, meaning I will use 2 layers of cotton fabric and the batting. Having said that, my sewing machine (a Silver Crest brand) doesn't include the walking foot and it seems I can't find it. Can I use the regular presser foot or will this cause a problem to the machine or the finish look of the sewing? Thank you for your time and help. Happy Holidays to you. 🎄

The walking foot helps reduce puckering. Try stitching your layers together and see how it goes. There are generic walking feet available also.

Does it make sense that the straight stitch looks a lot straighter with the walking foot vs regular presser foot? I’m tempted to just use walking dog for everything since the stitches look much better

@@TheSewingBasket I see. Maybe the tension on my machine is off too. I feel like the bobbin thread on my straight stitch often looks more defined and straight and neat vs the top thread. The Top thread stitches appear slanted and slightly curvy vs the bottom seems to be more “straight “

Do you know if there is a big difference between the basic Brother walking foot and the cheapo amazon/china versions? Im sure the metal one brother makes is probably superior to all of rhem

A low shank foot would fit. However, on a machine as small as the 5500 there are very few stitches that would benefit from the dynamic walking foot. A regular walking foot would be a good choice for you. And it will fit your machine.

The walking foot on the large Brother machines has a 1/4” guide. The smaller feet do not.

Sorry for the delay. No, this foot base is attached and not changeable like the Mu-vit foot is.

So does this claimed walking foot tear up the inside of the machine? The claw is my concern and what it does internally after a year or two. I tore up my metal Singer in the inside after two years of it jarring parts that were not designed for that drag in of material instead of a true walk. I have a true walking machine on my leather machine and the mechanics are not the same. I use a lot of fleece in my sewing.

We've been a machine dealer for over 9 years and have never had a machine problem caused by a walking foot. Most of our customers are quilters and sew 2 layers of cotton and batting.

I’m not familiar with that model. Most machines have a compatible walking foot if some type.

What I don't get is how you cant do backward stitching with it. Isn't that how you're supposed to start and end the sewing you just did?

Use the lock stitch. It does 3-4 stitches in place. Or manually do 3-4 in one place.
