Aksaray (literally "White Palace" in Turkish) is a neighborhood in Istanbul, Turkey. Aksaray is a part of the district of Fatih. It is so named because it was founded by migrants from Aksaray in central Turkey, deported there in the 15th century by Mehmet II to repopulate the city after the its conquest. It also borders the neighborhood of Eminönü around the Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque. Aksaray has a modern appearance, with many hotels and shops, mostly active in trade with Russia and Romania.
In Aksaray there is a station of the M1 line on the Istanbul LRT, which goes from Yenikapı to the Atatürk International Airport in Yeşilköy. The area is also served by the T1 tram line, with stops at Yusufpasha and Aksaray. Transport maps show a connection between the Yusufpasha tram stop and the metro station Aksaray, but this involves an above-ground walk of about 350m down side streets, or an even longer walk between the tram stop called Aksaray and the metro stataion called Aksaray.
Aksaray is also known as a hub for the illegal sex trafficking of young women from Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. Some reports in the Turkish media have claimed that the neighborhood is especially prone to prostitution because it is a "no man's land" between two adjoining police jurisdictions, Fatih and Eminonu.

local people don't go aksaray-laleli, if their workplace is not there. one of the ugliest places of istanbul. commercial touristic place. this place mostly have low rate hotels, arabic tourists who came for hair transplant, african people who sell fake watches, very baroque leather and fur boutiques for russian/ukranian tourists. italian named however turkish made menswear stores which you can't find at any mall. i suggest you to visit nisantasi, kadikoy (moda, bahariye, bagdat caddesi), sultanahmet and besiktas (akaretler, ortakoy, dolmabahce, bebek, arnavutkoy) areas of istanbul for more unique experience. Taksim is not my favourite but it should be seen. if you looking for mall shopping these are wellknown malls: istinye park (high fashion and local brands like gucci, burberry, dior, prada and most of turkish brands koton, mavi, yargici, network, ipekyol, sarar, mudo, vakko) zorlu center (high fashion brands louis vuitton, balenciaga, balmain, michael kors with few turkish brands, also have eataly and official apple store) cevahir mall (middle class large mall, mixed international brands such as gap, zara, mango, marks&spencer, sephora, nike, adidas, and most of local brands such as lc waikiki, defacto, koton, mavi, colins, mudo, polo garage, turkish department store 'boyner', and classic menswear stores.
