Walking in Gili Trawangan Main Street at night, summer 2022. So quiet!

Walking on the main street of Gili Trawangan in April 2022. So sad to see what used to be a party paradise, now almost seems like a dead city.
It's surprised me to see that the ever alive Sama Sama Reggae Bar, have not one single guest in sight!

You probably won’t see Gili T like that again unless we have another pandemic… We went to Gili Air for a week right at the end of the last one - it was lovely to see how quiet everything was but simultaneously quite sad because the lack of economic activity had really really hit the place hard and the local ppl were in a tough spot. Many places unable to remain open. We wanted to buy stuff from every street peddler just to help them out - but when you’re traveling you just don’t want to load up your bags with more junk and ‘stuff.’ The most common phrase I learned to use was “Ma’af… Tidak Mau.” (Sorry. Don’t need.)

Covid hit the island hard i guess. This is my 1st time visiting the island again since the pandemic and i was just as shocked by how empty it is

This is one of the best place i travelled in 2018. I heard that the place was almost closed due to covid and business was greatly affected. Are all shops in gili trawnagan fully open? or still Its not 100% open?

When I left the island a month ago, it had not fully open yet. In fact some of the best places such as casa vintage beach club, by the look of it, seems to be permanently closed I guess (though I hope not). Guess the covid hit the island hard. That being said saw some new dope places open though.
