Winter in the Finnish capital. The charming city of Helsinki is cold and windy during the winter.
This walk starts near the Esplanadi, heads toward the Market Square with a Christmas market. Then we go to the Uspenski Cathedral, Helsinki Cathedral, Amos Rex and even check out the Finlandia Hall and Temppeliaukion Church. Not a vlog, no intrusive faces and no talking - just a long walk showing the tourist experience in this nice walkable city.
Note on the audio: for the first 25 minutes this video has the Zoom H1 audio, then the battery was empty so the rest of audio is only from the internal Osmo Pocket mic
Filmed in December 2018
Camera: Osmo Pocket in 4K60
Mic: Zoom H1 + original Osmo Pocket audio

@poptravelorg
@poptravelorg 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This video (taken on 31.12.2018) was the 3rd walk I ever recorded when starting the channel (after Brno and Prague) so it has a special place in my memories. I had a few problems back then like my Zoom mic running out of battery and the firmware of the Osmo Pocket was rather unfinished. Originally I planned to return to Helsinki (and Tallinn) this summer yet I carry too much luggage at the moment. Also it's better to limit flights due to the ongoing situation. This original Osmo Pocket from then unfortunately "found" a new owner in Moldova, yet now I have the Pocket 2 (which I don't like as much) and 3 more Osmo Pocket 1 for filming in all directions. There are plans for an additional channel with editing so I hope that revisiting Helsinki will be possible in the near future. I have visited Helsinki 3 times though only during winter and hope that finally summer will work out...
@tripmood365
@tripmood365 3 жыл бұрын
Luggage often becomes a problem, I recognize the situation. Usually, camera accessories take over all the space and weight amount. In addition, it would be good to take something more clothes according to ... maybe :) Have you calculated how many steps you will have in a month as you walk?@@poptravelorg
@poptravelorg
@poptravelorg 3 жыл бұрын
When I travel for filming I walk 200+ km in a month for sure. That's what an app tells me. That's for 40+ videos so 4-6km on average is about right. I don't walk every day due to weather and relaxing yet often I take 2 or more videos when possible. The longest I ever walked was 64km in one day (80k+ steps) though that was more a personal fitness test circling a city in a trail.. Not recommended 😎
@tripmood365
@tripmood365 3 жыл бұрын
@@poptravelorg Hi :) 64 kilometers is already a tough accomplishment. Even if there is enough strength, the hips and bones become really sore. I got excited last winter when there was a lot of snow. I always went for a walk when there was a hard snowstorm. Afternoon and dark and no people anywhere. I walked 20-30 km. I learned inner peace while walking. I don't look at the clock but I keep going. BUT should definitely have taken breaks and stretched. I took 2 breaks myself ... and then I suffered from it for many days :)
@poptravelorg
@poptravelorg 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I suffered. The first 5h walking were easy, then the body had its limits. Next day I couldn't move much, the day after it was OK again. Today I shot 4 videos from 30'-50' length, BTW. I can't really relax while filming as there are many things going on : checking the map, taking photos and pointing the camera to something.. + mask on and off. Still I love traveling with filming places even though it's work - and fun

Great job as usual. You've done well to walk, especially on the Esplanade, at the beginning of the port and towards the train station, crossing the Cathedral Square and its neighborhood: about 500 m. around the starting point of the walk, which is the only quite beautiful area of the city. In general the city is not too nice, is quite dull, too modern, it doesn't have too much atmosphere and there’s not much to see.

Thanks for the comment. This was my 3rd video on the beginning yet I think I haven't learned 🤔 after now 200 with over 100 on the channel. There are interesting things left and right often that I'll want to record - or waiting at a traffic light. The 360° turns make me a bit dizzy so I'll see how it goes. Happy about a technical comment. I've heard similar critics from friends yet this isn't a dashcam video. Upward/downward pans are rather easy to watch. Please keep commenting on technicals maybe timestamps on the videos. I'll try to improve

@@poptravelorg .. Nice one. Yes, I happen to be in the industry. My own preference when using a lower cost camera (or at least not one the size of a crane like used on set) is to either pan very slowly or very very quickly (which is the way the eye works) and then hold very still on the new subject. It was my darling departed father, an amateur film buff, who told me to never hose-pipe. But lets not distract from the extraordinary footage you bring to my screen and the joy that brings me. Now, better see if I can find more critique as you have so kindly invited me to give it.... :)

@@poptravelorg Ah, must bore you with more.. As kids, we had chickens. I remember being enthralled how I could hold them and gently rotate them and myself (the hen is perfectly relaxed), and their head would be "like" glued to one position, then when the twist was too much, it would suddenly snap to a more comfortable position. (I would stress this is an instinct, and I loved my hens and they were never distressed). That was natures way of telling me how to pan!

There ARE ONLY 6t0,000 people in Helsinki. Looking at the architecture, It was built by highly skilled traditional Tartarians from massive wealth and knowledge of Roman architecture. So the history we have of Finland from 1810 forward does not tell THE story of this city. Nowhere in evidence is the TRUE manifestation of the population that ACTUALLY BUILT this city. Again, we the people are told fables by our historians.
