Walking in KAUFBEUREN / Germany 🇩🇪- Old Town in Allgäu - 4K 60fps (UHD)

Kaufbeuren is a town in Bavaria. Surrounded by the district of Ostallgäu the old town has the typical Bavarian flair with winding alleys.
We start our tour (October 2020) in the old town near the salt market and circle the St. Martins Church. We walk a bit towards the eastern edge of the old town with larger streets with more traffic. There we get to the Art Hall (Kunsthalle) with the Sywollenturm. We walk a bit further north along the old city walls, which was built in around 1200. We slip right through a small door in that wall back into the old town.
We check out more streets around the fruit market (Obstmarkt) and are back at the Kaiser-Max-Straße which leads us to the town hall. The Fünfknopfturm - a major attraction of Kaufbeuren on a hill - was closed so we have to skip the climb for another visit. The main parts of the old town however were now all visited so as an extra we once again head out of the city center. This time walk south .. to get back to the city hall once more from a different direction.
At last we leave the old town behind. On our way back to the train station we basically head for the city park. We reach that nice little park after a few minutes, where we end our Kaufbeuren tour.

Great video of my home town. The whole wooden roof structure of the house at 29:50/30:20 (Färberwinkel or Hasenfärbe) burned down in January. So it's great to see it again in its full beauty.

Als Alt-Kaufbeurer kann ich sagen, tolle Bilder, wußte zu jeder Zeit wo ich gerade bin. Ist aber sicher ausbaufähig, bei längerer Laufzeit. Leider ist die Infozeile unten, bei den Strassenwechseln, nicht immer aktualisiert worden. Trotzdem großes Lob für den betriebenen Aufwand.

It is a lovely little town, i have known it for 30+ years now and live close by. Kaufbeuren is a renowned ice hockey spot with a new stadium, if you come in winter, it is the best thing to go to. The annual highlight is the "Lagerleben", a medieval style event in July all over the old town, full of food and drink stands, lots of medieval performances and live music. It is visited by 10.000+ people every year. The best pub in town however is the "Dicker Hund", you can see its beer garden, hidden under some trees at 20:25 they have an excellent single malt collection and Guinness on tap. If you visit Kaufbeuren, make sure to walk up the hill to the historic town wall, from which you have a great view all over the old town. To understand what you see, there are guided tours available, even night tours. I can highly recommend those because they are like a time travel back to the old days. Not sure though if they are available in english language.

Danke. Ich freue mich über Korrekturen zur Wegbeschreibung. Als Durchreisender war ich an diesem Tag nach Kaufbeuren auch in Lindau und Memmingen. Den Weg verfolge ich grob über Google Maps. Audio-Kommentare werden oft gewünscht. KZbin arbeitet derzeit an mehreren Tonspuren für Lokalisation, was einigen großen Kanälen schon angeboten wurde. Dann werden vielleicht auch Kommentare kommen, denn ca. 15% der Zuschauer kommen auf diesem Kanal aus Deutschland. Für andere müsste dann alles auch in Englisch gesprochen werden aber mal sehen.

What a charming place, described as an 'Independent Town' on Wikipedia - does that mean they set their own taxes or something? It isn't a concept we have in the UK.

The "independent town" only means that they are their own district or rather a "district-free city". Cities can determine some local taxes like trade tax, property tax. Income tax or VAT are set on a federal level and then shared differently with states and districts
