Nicosia (Lefkosia) is the divided capital of Cyprus. Centrally located on the island, the greek side is in the South while the North is occupied and controlled by Turkey. Most of the museums of Cyprus are in Nicosia. Tourists often see the archaeological collection and both city zones during a day trip while staying near the beach during their vacations like Paphos ( • Walking in PAPHOS / Cy... ) and Limassol ( • Walking in LIMASSOL / ... ).
We start our tour at the Nicosia City Hall and walk around centre a bit. We head to the most busy Ledras street on this winter day (in February 2020) and reach the border check point ( 14:00 ). There we cross the Green Line border in Nicosia between the Greek and part occupied by Turkey. No filming is permitted at the border but we pass quickly.
There is a visible contrast between between the Greek and parts occupied by Turkey of Nicosia. There in the other zone we wander around further to see sights like the Selimiye Camii up to the Girne Kapısı. There are more older buildings and tourists around.
Eventually we walk back, cross the zones within an hour of our walk. We end our city walking tour at the bus stand of Nicosia, where most tourists on public buses would start their visit.
Filmed in February 2020

The areas surrounding the venetian walls used to be beautiful gardens years ago... It's an absolute disgrace what it is being transformed into. That this was designed by the most famous architect in the world just shows the deplorable state of modern architecture and urban design... If only Cypriots would tear up the concrete and make a beautiful garden out of it again...

Please be cautious about what you write before publishing. You mention the "Turkish parts of the city" in your video description. There is no such as Turkish part in Cyprus. It is the Northern Cyprus which is illegally occupied by Turks since their barbaric invasion in Cyprus in 1974. In 1983 the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) declared independence, although Turkey is the only country that recognizes it. The international community considers the TRNC's territory as Turkish-occupied territory of the Republic of Cyprus. The occupation is viewed as illegal under international law, amounting to illegal occupation of European Union territory since Cyprus became a member.

@@poptravelorg thank you for correcting it. I really want the world to know about the drama of my country, having taken away our rights since the barbaric Turkish invasion in 1974. The invasion aftermath was 7.000 greek cypriots slaughtered, 3.000 greek cypriots go missing and more than 200.000 greek cypriots violently removed from their homes. These are actual facts. Can you imagine North Korean invading New York city and then claim that New York is Korean and their legal territory? The audacity of those countries governed by their dictators is unimaginable. Also, the people in Turkey are getting brainwashed by the media everyday and falsely educated by their school books, claiming that the north part of Cyprus is Turkish and therefore they are all growing to believe to that outrageously wrong opinion. I wish countries all over the world could keep their hands off foreign lands and let people live peacefully.

Such a shame. A divided city in a truly beautiful island and just because a handful of Greek Cypriots wanted Union with Greece. I've spoken to Greek Cypriots and some Turkish Cypriots, all really beautiful people and I remember them telling me about a real friendship that existed between them. Such a great shame. Thank you.

Rum side is better. Turkish side is looks oldtimer. Northern side has no any global brands. Because Northern Turkish Republic is unknown country by the world and UN. Actually whole states seeing to Northern side occupied by Turks. So northern side does not have any investment. Then Turkish side looks ordinary.
