We have obsesision about tidyness. It is not shame to be poor( as long as you try to change it) but it is shame to be dirty. I was shocked when I went to the bus in UK and people were living newspapers on the sit's or flour, if somebody did it in Warsaw people will swear at him and force him to take it.

+Bard Gj (and others): It's well-made, but I wish he had turned aside here and there. In the Castle Square, he could have swung the camera to the left while still walking, to show the 3 mile view down to the river and across into the east of Warsaw. Those who have commented on the state of the roads - in most of Europe, children are taught, from the age of about three, "Take your litter home". It works.

I came in with low expectations but I'm surprised. It's super developed, the streets are clean and lots of beautiful monuments. It looks like some of the bigger European cities. Why does Poland have such a low GDP per capita?
@Benein9 жыл бұрын
victoneter And why are you a jerk?
@victoneter9 жыл бұрын
VersusMike You sound butthurt
@sirkluck9 жыл бұрын
victoneter Agree with much of what leihoa said, but (s)he threw in too much politics. The performance of the government may be a subject of discussion (although it is rated high abroad), but it's a fact that Poland's taxes belong to Europe's lowest (CIT 19%, PIT 18-32% , VAT 5-23%). Also the prices are low, especially of non-tradables: apartment rent from 600 USD, taxi ride 4-8 USD, bread 1 USD. It's true that we need to focus on innovation. Although we don't focus on potatoes either (agriculture = 3.5% GDP) and actually produce high-tech goods (cars, machines, electronics), the underlying technology is still imported. This means that we earn less than we could on the goods we produce. Still, out cumulated GDP growth since 2008 (the onset of the crisis) is above 20% and it was even higher before it! We are catching up quite quickly. Need some more time, some more maturity in the society, which will allow a more flexible legislation.
@sirkluck9 жыл бұрын
leihoa We could discuss further the issue of public debt. For instance, the fact that the world's largest and most successful economy is also the world's largest debtor. Or the fact that corporations, not to mention banks and other such, treat debt as a business tool and use it much more extensively than (central, local) governments. But perhaps the issue of public debt is to some extent one of beliefs or values rather than of facts, so let's leave it as is. I would definitely wish from the government more incentives for innovation (R&D, HR, industry-academia partnership). And I would wish from the society more mutual respect and trust. :)
