Walking Jazz Standards Series: "Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" | Bass Guitar Lesson
Upright and Electric bassist, Jared Plane presents his ongoing series of video tutorials focusing on creating walking bass lines over specific jazz standards. In this lesson, the jazz standard considered is "Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II from the 1928 operetta, "The New Moon". For more free bass tutorials, search through the "Lessons" playlist on the jplanejazz KZbin channel. Please subscribe to receive notifications of new videos.

Please don't stop making videos! I'm just starting to play bass and I have found your channel to be so incredibly helpful. I wish to to be able to jam with others one day, and your channel is the only one that deconstruct jazz standards in languages that musicians use. I just have a quick question: I'm still very new to the bass, and being able to keep to the tonic center is something that still takes considerable cognitive effort for me. But when jazz players play in real time, it all seems very intuitive and different from the retrospective chord deconstruction that I'm doing. Do musicians hear what they want to play in their head first? Do they just get used to certain chord shapes?
