Walking Spud Clamshell Dredge

Njord, the ancient god of sea, seafarers, wind and fertility.
Manson Construction Co. derrick barge D.B. "NJORD" is a 55 cubic yard clamshell dredge with a walking spud. Fertility? Oh, well. Here she (he? it?) is doing channel clean-up in the Alameda Channel in the Oakland Inner Harbor. The 55-cubic yard clamshell bucket looks really small in the video--the entire Njord is 146 feet long. Njord is accompanied by the disposal barges RockPort and FreePort and some other workcraft, all painted in red and white for Manson.

The Peralta is a San Francisco to Alameda Ferry that uses this channel to Jack London Square.

I was tending the Njord that year as the crew boat captain of the "Rustler." You guys know who I am. I'm now 19 days into my retirement! I'm done!!!

sunking2001 I know I saw the Manson Jeffrey bringing an empty barge in that day, but I don't think I have any pictures of the Rustler. I will look around my collection and share if there are any. Thanks for the comment-enjoy your free time!

The "Rustler" is a small crew/survey boat. It was limited with one engine, one prop, and one rudder. It was a great job tending the Njord in 2013. I have nothing but respect for Manson Construction...a company who "takes care of their equipment"...as opposed to their competitors. They treat their employees pretty good, too!
