Derails also were used on main tracks at opening bridges over water. The old Erie Main Line had derails on the PAssaic Park and Rutherford sides of the Passaic River. The bridge tender activated them when the bridge was to be opened for marine traffic.

Looks like NJ has seriously beautiful nature, with some decent architecture and no random patches of garbage it would've been a 10/10 place.

I’m hearing rumors about the line becoming active again in the future, that’s the only reason why the line isn’t ripped up by now.

Also, that set of rails was used to Remove Soil from the Hoffmann La-Roche plant on Kingsland. They dug the contaminated soil, and put it in rail cars Parked on this set of tracks. Finished in 2010-15? (not sure).

Newark Branch is one of my favorite hikes. The Newark wall of fame was a famous gaffiti spot. If you go east from the NX bridge, the line connects with the lower boonton line by snake hill. I hiked down the Boonton line, then up the Newark branch and ate at Topps. Ive climbed on the NX bridge. That fence wasnt there last year. Now as for history, It was Erie, then Erie Lackawanna, then passed to NS. freight ran down all the way to 4th ave until 2013. NS H55 still runs into Clifton a few times a week. BTW youre a BEAST hiking all that way. I thought I was the only one who did this. Lemme know next time you go.
@drewr5119 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know how you managed to climb the NX Bridge with the condition it’s in. Also in 2021 I saw a train at the Clifton Av crossing my guess is they only use that line to connect a factory in Clifton to Paterson. Your crazy for going all the way out to the meadowlands.
@ERIELACKU34CH Жыл бұрын
@@drewr5119 Van Ness plastics is just south of Clifton ave, its actually on Brighton ave. NS still runs down there a couple times a week. They make dog food and cat food bowls. plus, I didnt go all the way up NX.

What's the "lower Boonton"? The original Boonton Line is now called the Main Line from where it leaves the Morris & Essex just west of the Bergen tunnels to South Paterson. The abandoned sections of the Newark Branch or Greenwood Lake Branch never were parts of the Boonton Line. The Greenwood Lake Branch connects with the Boonton Line at Mountain View. The Newark Branch joined the Boonton Line for a couple of miles just east of South Paterson.
@ERIELACKU34CH Жыл бұрын
@@erie910 In our timetable at New Jersey Transit, the entire line from Hoboken through Montclair to Mt View and west to Denville was called the Boonton line. After the Montclair connection was made, below the connection was "the old Boonton line" or "the lower Boonton line" Not historically accurate, but the Erie and DL& W were long gone.
@erie910 Жыл бұрын
If the Greenwood Lake Branch east of the Montclair Connection is the "lower Boonton Line," then what's the REAL Boonton Line from its junction with the Morris & Essex Line to South Paterson where it joins the Erie Main Line. This part of the Greenwood Lake Branch never was a part of the Boonton Line, and it shouldn't be referred to as such.

Great video, grew up in Belleville. Those trespassing signs didn't mean a thing back then either. Smelly corner was Holmes Street. However, back in my day someone would have called the Nutley PD on you as you were crossing the trestle over Passaic Ave and you would be speaking with a local officer about it. Nutley always policed the tracks hard back then for homeless and parties.

When I was young I used to walk the tracks of the Caldwell branch of the Booton line before the tracks were torn up. From great notch to Roseland. I think a lot of the right-of-way is still intact today

Im not sure the only part I’ve walked is the West Essex Trail.

The Caldwell Branch was off the Erie Greenwood Lake Branch, not the Boonton Line. The Caldwell Branch never connected with the Boonton Line.

@@erie910 I'm not sure I understand because the booton line is the old Erie Greenwood Lake division. The Caldwell branch connected to it just west if the great notch station.

I’m not sure if they could it would be very expensive and the line might get restored some day.
@erie910 Жыл бұрын
Unless the Coast Guard determines that there will be no more maritime traffic, the bridge would have to be restored to operating condition and a bridge tender made available. That all costs money, which means that someone would have to be found to pay for it all.
