Thank you for the educational presentation. I’m proud of my Khmer heritage. There have been lots of wars that have hindered the development of the country and devastated the arts. I appreciate you for emphasizing the rich history that Cambodia had in the past. I know that the country will flourish again in time.

Amazing speech and the best presentation ever, Dr. Jennifer Foley. Thanks for talking about the true history of Cambodia and how was strong of Khmer Empire era (108 provinces, Javaramann VII), that's why Empire Kings were able to build such a mega structure of the Angkor Wat Temple and many more Temples surrounding Angkor City, including Phi Mai Temple in Thailand now, it was Khmer Empire heritage, also Wat Phu Temple in Laos now, and Delta Mekong (Chenla Krom or Chenla Flooded), Okeo was the only Khmer seaport which was built to make business with other countries in the world!

Almost everyone knows about Angkor wat and the temples of Angkor. The enormous city of Angkor the largest pre-industrial city in the world. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. On going studies and research about other provincial cities of the Khmer Empire it's important to understand how muscular the state of the Khmer Empire was at it's peak during the early 13th century A.D.

@JoeyRec Yeman, I believe that it dates way back further too. ... It mirrors the constellation of "Draco" in the northern sky back to 10.500 b.c. Check a view of the WHOLE temple compound from above, and compare it with an image of Draco, then "Roll" the sky back to 10.500 b.c, and it is a heaven's mirror image ! . Its the same with the Pyramids of Giza, they target "Orion".

@@pierceaero3005 Why I say invented, the history is not even logical. Let me give you a clue, don't you see women everywhere, especially buddha women. Maybe you can't distinguish a man and a women. Our nation in the past is rule by women. When you see a statue whit a lot of hand it's mean how strong they are, not a Hinduism god, and they are Khmer leader. And to think Champa is a big treat for Khmer kingdom is another enological thinking, look at the size of Champa and the size of Khmer Empire. They got not even one king name right.

Hi Dr. Jennifer, The word Bonthia Srey mean a palace of women. It's because it was build by women only. Men and women had a contest back then. Men build a temple and women build a temple who ever finish first the loser will asked for hand when a couple is getting married. The women won; since then men asked women for a hand to be married and pay for the entire wedding.

Ofcourse they were worshiping some kind of god before Hinduism. But the temple is a Hindu temple, built when Hinduism pervaded in Cambodia. You can't deny your history. The temple sculptures and history proves its hindu history. You know you have literally The milk churning Hindu mythology carved on walls. It's called Samudra Manthan in Hinduism. Its also has Ramayana and Mahabharata depictions

This is what learning from traditional schooling/history gets you.. Angkor Wat is far older than 2,000 years old. There are even mysterious carvings of dinosaurs on the temple. The kings were portrayed as giants, not as an artistic statement to show royalty, but because they were literally giants. Its the same thing Egyptology does with the art of Akhenaten.. these were god kings that came from the heavens, in many stories they were hermaphroditic.. In the bible they are knob as Nephilim.

Sorry sir, it was a carving of a rhinoceros, not a dinosaur. And it is not in Angkor Wat, it is in Banteay Srei (lit. Fortress of Females, or Fortress of Glory, or Fortress of Liberty. Srei can meant all these things). Flattered to hear that you think that it is over 2000 years old, but the area surrounded it was only settled as a city around 1200 years ago, at least in records anyway. Tried to make a visit, you would guarenteed to enjoy the experience.

@@Account.for.Comment totally agree. The convention of giant figures was a way to portray the importance of the leader and some thing like the proto concept of a “close up”. I was also surprised by what looks like a dinosaur. It’s part of a stone architrave with a number of small carved decorations; well known and explained many times that it is not a dinosaur.

It was built as a Hindu temple with all the evidence there to back this up. But it was later turned into a Buddhist temple. And that evidence is also there. The workmanship to convert Angkor Wat into a Buddhist shrine is poor and not of the same quality as the original. And that evidence shines! You just have to know what evidence to look for.
