Dharavi is a densely populated neighborhood in Mumbai, India. It is known as one of the largest slums in Asia, with an estimated population of over 1 million people living in an area of just over 2 square kilometers. Despite its reputation as a slum, Dharavi is also home to a thriving informal economy, with industries such as leather goods, textiles, pottery, and recycling generating billions of rupees in revenue each year.
Dharavi is also known for its community spirit and resilience in the face of adversity. The COVID-19 pandemic posed a significant challenge to the neighborhood, but residents worked together to implement measures such as community kitchens and quarantine centers to help slow the spread of the virus.
In recent years, there have been efforts to redevelop Dharavi in order to improve living conditions for its residents. However, these efforts have been controversial, with some residents concerned that redevelopment plans will result in the loss of their homes and businesses.
