Hi 👋🏻 moved to Central Florida about a year ago. I’m in an HOA community that has a lovely brick wall around it, luckily we got a piece of property with a side yard and a backyard that I’ve been working on. There is a firehouse behind us and I’m trying to see what I can do to soften the look (aka hide the firehouse lol!) You’ve given me some wonderful ideas! Coming from the mountains in NC this is a whole new ballgame for me😊.

New subscriber here. I'm your people too! Your designs are amazing! I have a side yard with the neighbor's house 4 yards away filling my whole bedroom window view. My part of that space is 2yds by 20 yds. 9a/8b border, SE facing. Not sure what to do with so little width, can't put gates, fences, trellises or stone here - and my window top is about 15' up anyway - but will continue to check your videos for ideas. Thank you for the inspiration! Beautiful work! Watching these is literally like therapy or a meditation.

Hi, I loved your backyard garden tour and just came across this video. I've been looking for ideas for my tropical garden on a new property next year in Yucatan so 100% hot tropical with monsoon and dry seasons. Looking for ideas for privacy alongside a terrace and plunge (small) pool as well as ideas for something I could use like a hedge along the street sides of the property.

Wow, so lovely. I am so grateful for your videos; they are so inspiring. We bought the empty lot next to our home and are trying to create a dreamy jungle setting like yours. You have such a gift and artistry; I wish we were located close enough to work with you. Could you possibly tell us about your direction/exposure? Does the front of your home look to the east? So this side yard design is facing south? I've never lived in an area where the direction of the sun matters so much when planning plantings. It's endlessly fascinating. Thank you so much for your postings.
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart Жыл бұрын
Thank you so very much I’m glad you found it inspiring. I know it can be daunting starting with an empty space and yes sun direction is very important. The side yard is NW. however the bottom tier is pretty shaded by the larger tier. So keep that in mind try getting your taller material in place. Sometimes that will open the door using smaller shade plants where you wouldn’t normally be able to use them. Best of luck to you.

I love all the information that you have to share, and it's cute that your husband loves you so much that he's filming you instead of the plants. But it would be so much more informative if he would focus on the plants more and less on you so we can really get a feel for what you're talking about. Seems he'll pan to the plants for a moment but the camera is moving around so much it's hard to see the details. It's a bummer. Edit: Plus some of us get sea sick when the camera swings around so fast! I only made it half-way through.

I love Frangipani and funny enough I added two to my back yard space a few months back. Maybe I’ll do an updated video to show their location. I have been admiring your garden tours and your plant selection. Just beautiful! I am researching palms for my 10a/salt environment location. The Chinese Fan Palm Livistona chinensis is very beautiful but I hesitate to plant it. Upon researching it appears it is considered category II invasive in Florida due to the seeds spread by birds and ease in propogation. Can you tell me about the seeds and how you manage that aspect. Is it salt hardy and does it have a fibrous root system? I am considering this in an area where there is septic/leach lines. Thank you for sharing!
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 8 ай бұрын
Great question, yes heavy rooted trees so Id be sure they were a good 30ft from septic or surround the area with a root guard( many options online). Yes they can create volunteers unfortunately that is the norm with so many palms since they seed so frequently, the best thing to do is cut out the pods when you notice them. Good luck!

Beautiful garden. How do you keep it from spreading over to your neighbors yards? I have a small yard that backs up to my neighbors home / small and we can’t use fencing but I would like to create a privacy tropical garden.
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart Жыл бұрын
Well Jonathan that's the challenge isn't it. I usually start by using the most mature trees as the rear backdrop this helps to limb them up so we can see how or if we have any overhang into the neighbors yard. Then I go from there. If they are young research their growth habit most of the time if its an over hang of a palm frond and doesn't inhibit the neighbors from their own yard work then they do not mind the overhang. Even though no-one controls the air space they can cut any limbs overhanging on their side. Good luck to you!
@Florida882

When you cut the Areca palms do they regrow in the spot you cut or no? I saw that those tend to sprawl out and make new sprouts around them.
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 2 ай бұрын
Great questions, They do not grow from the cut frond section. They are a clumping tree so they grow from the center base and the outside edges. However they can be kept as narrow as 3-4ft wide at the base with a little extra work. Since any of the trunks can be cut to fit the aesthetics of the tree it can be kept more narrow or overall shorter by trimming the tallest trunks. Hope that helps
