Walks with Harvey - Mourne Mountains, The Best Route to Ben Crom

This week Harvey and I revisit Ben Crom, but this time we go by a different route. Any other time I have visited Ben Crom it has been a particularly boggy path to get their - whether its coming from the Ott path past Doan or it's coming up from between the 2 reservoirs, you are going to get your feet wet. This route via Hares Gap and the back of Bearnagh has its own challenges with a bit of scrambling at one point but at least your feet will be drier.

So if you follow base of bearnagh there should be a clear path to Ben crom ? Or just find any way to get to it ? Is the waterfall quite near Ben crom ? Sorry all the questions I’m going camping there this week

its not a particularly clear path , but once you go past the waterfall try and gradually make your way higher up the slope and you are looking for ben crom straight ahead of you. it's handy having an app like all trails just so you can see your position on the map in relation to where you are going.

Why do you have your dog on a lead?

Because there are sheep all over the Mournes and it's an easy place for dogs to get lost and disorientated . 2 have gone missing in the last few months and the rangers were out for hours finding them. He does get off in other places and occasionally in the Mournes but when the landowners have expressed a preference for dog's to be on a lead I try to stick by the rules . With landowners starting to restrict access in other areas across Ireland probably best to try and keep in their good books. :)
