You also have to see the short of Wall-E called Burn-E. It's only a few minutes, but it a sort of side story about another robot. Also, Lego made a Wall-E robot. You can't buy it anymore, but you can buy the fake Lego one.

He really rose up, and proved that he deserved to be the captain. He may not have represented himself as a responsible captain in the very beginning, but you come to realize that's just because years of mundane duties never demanded anything extraordinary out of him. He had sunken into a dull routine, and became lackadaisical as a byproduct of repetition. But when push came to shove, he was ready and willing to shove back. He took his position and responsibilities seriously, even if his first impression in the film implied otherwise.

Pixar movies are definitely known for being able to get you to cry, for getting you emotionally invested. Sadly, Disney seems to have caused that reputation to slide, as now people think of Pixar as the "straight to streaming" studio, but they've made some amazing movies. Once, they were the prestige studio from Disney, making what their parent company only wished they could do. Maybe they can get back to that level of notoriety.

I remember not really liking the film much as a child, but it's really grown on me as I've gotten older, and I now think it's one of Pixar's best films, and one of the best animated films ever made. The fact they're able to get you so invested in a love story between two robots with basically no dialogue; the fact that this kids' film has such powerful messaging and commentary about environmentalism, consumerism and apathy in the face of disaster; the fact that the big subversive twist is that the evil robot is evil because he's rigidly following orders rather than developing his own identity and personality like the other robots. The animation is gorgeous, the little dialogue we get is poignant and powerful, and Thomas Newman's score is honestly one of his best, this entire film is just brilliant, it's one of my favourites now

Part of what makes this movie so amazing and beloved is that WALL-E is such an absolute sweetheart who brightens the day of everyone he comes into contact with. Also, the little robot that put the plant into the escape pod, is called GO-4 (aka Gopher, like the kind of person sent to do menial tasks). He took the plant and tried to get rid of it because he was ordered to do so by the Auto-pilot, who had orders not to go back to earth. Personally, I feel that the Auto-pilot also liked being in control and didn't want the status quo to change.

My favourite call back in this movie is in the Captain's 'heroic' moment overcoming Auto. He has to press the 'manual' piloting button. And he only knows this because of the 'manual' he read earlier on. After being given the manual he googled what it meant along with Earth. Its a tiny moment but a great pay off. Cause and effect writing is always satisfying

WALL-E is just about the best thing Pixar have ever done (with the possible exception of the opening sequence to UP....) Its an absolute masterpiece of visual storytelling and conveys so much character and emotion in a film that focuses on 2 characters who dont have a single line of dialogue (beyond noises and one word soundbites). It's just a wonderful wonderful films in every way!

Count on Pixar to make you cry over a robot. Btw, I love how you kept referring to Wall-E and EVE as if they were alive and talking about them "dying". Yes, that was the music from 2001, Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss. Elsewhere in the movie the Blue Danube Waltz was used. Auto was obviously modeled after HAL from 2001. The real person you noticed was Fred Willard. He was in Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and This is Spinal Tap, and recurring roles in Everybody Loves Raymond and Modern Family. It was a creative idea, to have a live person in the middle of an animated movie.

Hey Jen, Wall-E follows the tenant of 'Show rather than tell', -------- The animation study developed at Disney is to give inanimate objects personality and make you connect with them. -------- Pixar has taken this concept and made it into an art form. -------- You feel it from the logo animation at the start of every movie when the lamp draws you into their world.

This is the first (and only as far as I know) Pixar movie to have real humans in it. It is also the first (and possibly only) one to use primarily pre-existing music for the soundtrack. One question though: If they've been traveling for 700 years A) How did Wall-E and Eve get to them so quick and how did the Axiom get back to Earth so fast? I think the answer is that they've not been traveling in a straight line away from Earth but rather in some kind of orbit around the sun, waiting for conditions to improve).

I took me many rewatches to realise this, but Wall-e was probably always able to speak. He just hasn't talked to anyone in *years* which is why he has to get used to it again when Eve shows up. His speaking gets better through the whole movie and it's so fasinating.

One of the cool things about this movie is there's not actually a "robot uprising." The only robots not doing exactly what they're programmed to do are Wall-E and Eve (and all the other malfunctioning robots in the repair ward). The Autopilot was just following orders that it considered more important than what the current captain wanted. Fascinating twist on the usual robot plot.

"Imagine, if you can, a small room hexagonal in shape, like the cell of a bee. It is lighted neither by window nor by lamp, yet it is filled with a soft radiance. There are no apertures for ventilation, yet the air is fresh. There are no musical instruments, and yet, at the moment that my meditation opens, this room is throbbing with melodious sounds. An armchair is in the centre, by its side a reading-desk-that is all the furniture. And in the armchair there sits a swaddled lump of flesh-a woman, about five feet high, with a face as white as a fungus. It is to her that the little room belongs." E M Forster

🤖👍 The musical that Wall-E is obsessed with is "Hello Dolly," the 1969 big screen adaptation of the hit 1964 Broadway stage production. It's a film that's well worth watching in it's own right, although I know there are always complicated copyright issues when it comes to reacting to musicals. 😎 Well, you've watched "Monsters Inc" "Inside Out" and "The Incredibles." Needless to say, there are at least a couple of dozen other Disney/Pixar films that are must-sees, but I'll put in a good word for what I think is the most underrated one of all..."Soul" (2020).

If you like WALL-E, i recommend "Short Circuit" from 1986. It's with WALL-E's "Dad".

just dont touch the 2nd one with a 10 foot pole... shame the ending is pretty decent when it's preceded by an hour of schlock

Eve's voice actress did an outstanding job portraying desperation after Wall-E got crushed. That's what really evokes the tears for me every time.

She's not even a professional voice actress, she was a random employee Pixar used as a placeholder.

This is one of my favourite Pixar movies of all time, and even introduced me to Hello Dolly, and solidified my status as a hard-core musical theatre lover. 🥰

You are going to fall in love with WALL-E , just a wonderful movie that speaks volumes without saying anything. Such great non verbal storytelling

Pixar did an absolutely incredible job conveying the depth and breadth of human emotion using only the 'body' language and minimal verbalisations of a cute little robot. The subtle movements and emotional storytelling are truly wonderful. Jen, you're as adorable as Wall-E and you bring a lot of joy to the world even through your tears. I hope you get to hold hands with whomever you love. Take care 😊
