7:22 you can get a stop collar that attaches to the drill bit to set the depth of the hole

@2:00 "storage boxes are relatively expensive" I made my own. They're just storage boxes you can buy from... well... nearly anywhere fairly cheaply, and the packing foam is not expensive either and the companies cut it to size for you. A little bit of manual effort to cut out the slots and you have a storage box for considerably less cost than buying the pre-made ones sold at exhibitions, not to mention you can fit more into them if you cut the slots yourself. They really don't need that much padding between locos and wagons. Even if you don't go to exhibitions, they are SO much faster for putting away and bringing out your trains, keeps them protected and dust-free when not in use and they stack neatly. The last storage box I made set me back less than £15 overall.

Thanks. Interesting. Have subscribed. Whatever you do, don't throw out the boxes like I did! All ok till we moved house. Had to individually wrap and pack every loco and coach. Was also warned not to wrap bubble wrap immediately next to each item. When left can sweat and damage paintwork when removed . Hope that is useful . Space and storage always a problem. Stay safe. I don't have a train addiction, I have a storage problem. Yes Sir, would you like to get comfortable on the couch while we discuss this issue.

I was a little surprised they got filled up that far with just locomotives -- and there's four more that haven't been put in the cabinet yet, which will leave only one spot remaining.

I currently have everything in Wilko and Asda plastic storage boxes as I am moving in two weeks. Kinda hoping I can get it sorted after getting settled. These cabinets look great, but I fear you are going to need more of them. 😅

I have exactly the same problem! I used to have an 8 lane fiddle yard, then had to go to an 18 lane fiddle yard (with a huge layout change / update) thats now all filled up. I used to have a 10 metre long 3 track shelf layout, thats now just used for storage! I think I my need some help!!!! :) Liked and Subbed! Cheers, Andy

If you are still afraid, about the door handle, hitting the shelves put some bubble wrap around the door handle and it should help
@DongitsModelRailway10 ай бұрын
The door handle goes into the gap between the two sets of shelves -- fits in there perfectly :)
@Cloudman57210 ай бұрын
But if someone else opens the door with the handle still down will it hit glass?
@DongitsModelRailway10 ай бұрын
@@Cloudman572 No. The glass is further in than the frame, so it would hit the frame. Also ... surely no-one does that? That's a really awkward way to open a door full of pointless effort.
@Cloudman57210 ай бұрын
@@DongitsModelRailway That's the way I always open a door, the latch on our doors are sharp on the corner and I know a friend who ended up with stitches as a kid when his brother jerked the door open and hit him with the latch. if you are worried about the effort involved think of it as exercise.

Great storage solution, where did you find these cabinets? 😊
@peacheymodels350310 ай бұрын
Yeah, a link would be awesome I've googled Homcom 833-761bk and got a variety of sources, but none that cheap :(

The eBay listing I bought from is sold out now, but these appear to be the same cabinet, just in different colours: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295271101041 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235437124247 Not sponsored, not associated with these sellers, not guaranteeing you will get exactly what I did, other marketplaces exist, etc, etc.

Hi. Can you advise the measurement you did for your shelves as I to have these cabinets and would like to do the same. Thank you.
@DongitsModelRailway9 ай бұрын
I used the stock location for the top shelf, and the fourth one. I spaced the others equally between these. The measurement ended up being slightly wider for shelves 1, 2, 3 and 4, and slightly narrower for 5, 6, and 7.
@jonathanfrayne950110 ай бұрын
I just thought you might lay some track on the shelves to help keep the stock from rolling about (or God help us ) falling off! I don't think it would affect the spacing of the shelves. It looks like a piece of flexi-track would fit just nicely onto a shelf. Where did you get the shelf units, please?
@DongitsModelRailway10 ай бұрын
I did consider track on the shelves, but decided against it in the end. Turns out track isn't cheap, and if I'm going to buy track I'm going to lay it in the upper station. I found those shelf units on eBay, but I've seen them listed for sale elsewhere too.
@mj413747 ай бұрын
@@DongitsModelRailway have you considered just running a small router bit and using two straight edges along the length to carve “tracks” into the shelves to keep locos and cars from sliding/falling?
@DongitsModelRailway7 ай бұрын
@@mj41374 That would be a great idea ... if the shelves were solid wood. Unfortunately they are laminated chipboard. Cutting into the top surface would not be a good idea. In practice, locos aren't sliding off the shelves, so I'm not worried about needing to secure them. But if I did have that problem, a strip of card glued down the centre of the shelf would achieve the same result.

Do you have a link for the cabinets- would make great warhammer storage too!
