So as a wall ball veteran I have some fun add ons to spice up the game. This is aimed for experienced players. the first is statue which you already mentioned. you cant move if someone yells "statue!" 2nd is blueberries. If someone doesn't yell no blueberries then you are aloud to throw the ball in any direction and then have to run to the wall and tap it before someone throws it to the wall. 3rd is black magic. This one is a little unfair but you can use it if you want. Black magic allows you to throw the ball (lightly) at another person and you have to go tap the wall and so do they. 4th is taxis. If you or another person has the ball. You can volunteer to take it from them and you can wait and let them touch the wall or betay and get them out.

One we do at school is, “Challenge no Chicken!” Basically if someone is far away from the wall, and someone yells this, they can’t run closer to the wall, so the ball the throw might not always hit the wall. This is a brutal - fun way to make it so more players get out. Also, at school we also do revenge mode.

We do shotgun so when someone yells shotgun you stay in your place and throw it at the wall

The way we played it was if you missed the ball and someone threw it and hit the wall before you got there, you had to stand infront of the wall and let that same person smoke you with the ball. We were Hardcore

I have taught PE at the same school for 25 years and this game has always been there, they call it butt up. It is funny how it is just passed down from older siblings and never went away but game was never taught to kids by an adult. My 18 and 23 year old kids have great memories of playing butt up in elementary school.
@PEPratt3 жыл бұрын
This is the same way I played it as a kid too! When I teach it in class I modify it to be more “school appropriate” lol.

It’s definitely a classic Jen. I’m assuming I learned it from my older brother as well as I don’t ever recall learning it in class.

We played it that way too, had to stand there and get tagged.

@Ex_impius4 ай бұрын
Yep. If you got hit 3 times you had to spread eagle on the wall and the people who got you got 3 throws at you standing on the wall

For some reason, at 3 a.m., on a Sunday, I remembered that in the third grade, I won wall ball champion of the school, and got my name painted on the wall. Not only is that one hell of a run on a sentence, but I'm here to remember how I did it. LMAO.

I used to love playing this during recess back in elementary school. We played the elimination version though, and the wall we would use was a brick wall that had big blocks along the bottom 18” or so, and where the bricks and blocks would meet there was this tiny lip and if you hit it just right and hard enough the ball would fly over the basketball court and into this island in the playground that had trees and shrubs and whatnot in it. I’m pretty sure there was some benefit for getting one of those shots but I can’t remember what it was. Anyway, it was a SUPER popular game at my school, so if you got out early it kinda sucked because we only got a couple of games per recess. But yeah, I have some good childhood memories playing wall ball for sure!!

The way we played it, we’d use a tennis ball, and if you threw it at the wall and someone catches it before the ball touches the ground, you loose a life, and we’d play where everyone has three lives. We’d also intentionally throw it at the wall in such a way that it bounces off the wall and hits someone so that they have to run to the wall. We also had a rule that if the ball touches the ground before hitting the wall, the person who threw it looses a life.
@JerzeyBoy2012 жыл бұрын
In Jersey City NJ, if you dropped that ball, you gotta touch the wall before the ball touches it or touches you! You get eliminated, when you get hit with the ball or the ball touches the wall. But you were able to return to the game when another player dropped the ball and had to touch the wall. If they get to the wall then the eliminated player come back. So no one was ever really out of playing for too long. I feel like having to sit out makes you question your skills. You’ll either try to get better or jus be a sore loser lol. I miss the later 90’s, early 2ks 😭😭

We had to spread eagle on the wall if we missed it and then the whole team got one shot to hit you with the ball. If that happened three times, you're out.
@vwcanter6 ай бұрын
We played it in such a way that you had to hit the runner with the ball. It seems like you could almost always throw the ball faster than someone can run. So the runner would almost always be out, this way. And also, if the ball only has to hit the wall, it may be impossible for any player to tell which touched first. But schools might be discouraging that practice.
@Uhfgood2 жыл бұрын
When I was a kid, if someone called it and failed to catch it, they would have to go up to the wall, and the other players got to throw the ball at them as hard as possible ;-)

This is the closest video to what I played as a kid and was searching for lol. The only difference for us is if you miss and they beat you to the wall. You get pegged while standing facing the wall. Wasn't a gym game for us, just something we did at siblings baseball games with other baseball players so the ball was moving fast.

Nah the best rule is that if you get "out", you stand in front of the wall and only get back in if you catch a ball before it hits the wall. That way everyone is still always playing, but it adds more competition. You keep going until only 1 person is left

We say "FREEZE" And if we say freeze the person that picked up the ball has to freeze at the spot they were at when we said freeze. We can't say "FREEZE" Until the person with the ball is at least able to throw the ball to the wall. That's how we play it at my school, it could be otherwise for other people. But for us, that's how we play.

Instead of a strike, if you didn’t touch the wall before the ball you had to stand against the wall while the person who threw the ball got to throw the ball at you as hard as they could and try to murder you. The person against the wall could try to dodge it. We were NOT the same as kids today haha😂
