Just coming across this now, somehow. Lovely and rich, as ever. Bryan's in fine form, too. Well done, both.

This is beautiful! Wallis Giunta's ability to delightfully blend her chest and head voice in a way that sounds simple and stress-free is perfect for Send in the Clowns. The expression and care given to this song are what sets it apart. I don't know if it's the beautiful, almost haunting piano line or the sadness of the lyrics that get to me more, but I can't listen to this song without a melancholic feeling. That's what good music does though; you feel it in every corner of your body!

Just listening and loving it. It makes me think of Sir Thomas Allen. He's done same American songs on a wonderful CD ("September Songs") and by presenting it he explained he found it important not to sing these songs with an "operatic" approach, but as "naturally" as possible. In my mind I agreed, but thought "if only more singers would be able to that!" Sir Thomas is - and you're obviously too. And listening to you I've just become aware why I enjoy opera singers doing such songs. It isn't only their mostly beautiful voices (yours and Sir Tom's certainly belong to the most lovely in the world), but that you really can sing: perfect diction, flawless intonation, musicality, great dynamics... In short:very well done. (ps: I hope i"ve made sense. As you know: English isn't my mother tongue)

I think I am now in virtual love with you. I have not been able to listen to this song in over 4 decades... it was the song playing in the background when my parents told me that my abuela.. my grandmother died when I was 12- years old.. I only stumbled upon this after discovering you covering Gordon Lightfoot...one of my favorite songs. I steeled myself to hear this because I was captivated by your voice... and your beauty. And I figured if I could approach this song.. which I loved as a child again it would have to be someone like you. And you did it... I was able to sit through your amazing, stunning rendition... crying of course... You are amazing. I'm glad I discovered you. Thank you for my catharsis.. my healing of this lovely, magical song.

After watching Sondheim's 90th birthday celebration stream I went on a Send In The Clowns binge and of the 25 + I've watched yours stuck with me the most. The emotional beats, how you pace the phrases, it just fits so well. Amazing.

@@wallis.giunta There's nothing to be sorry, Wallis. It's very intelligent interpreted. Of course, this difficult song will get deeper and deeper with your age, but don't worry, it's really good even now. I'm pretty sure, our friend Sir T.A. will be very satisfied too!

You don't like the lyrics?
@catlemonyi41836 жыл бұрын
i'm not really a fan of the musical genre. though there are some songs that really touch me. in this case i don't like that clown imagery. even if he meant it like... 'when the show doesn't work, well, send in the jokes' ...the theme of the lyrics itself of course gets through to me... but i could never really connect to it as a whole, you know? the clowns spoil everything. 1st version of this song that i heard is the one by judy collins. i really like most of the stuff she does but... i always skip forward when this song begins to sound. but... who am i? probably it's a masterpiece and i'm just to ignorant to see and feel it. (...guess it's just that i don't really like clowns in all forms or metaphors. ;) )
