Hello Legarms, I grew up on a dairy farm so I identify closely with your lifestyle, and I really like your family oriented content! Heck, I even have a Ford 555B backhoe that looks a lot like yours😄 I saw the part where you were pondering how to heat your potable water. I work for a leading US boiler and water heater manufacturer, and because you have radiant floor heat tubing already installed, I would recommend installing a high efficiency condensing wall mount boiler, and using an indirect tank (tank with an internal heat exchanger) hooked to the boiler for your potable hot water. That way you can utilize the high combustion efficiency of the boiler for space heating AND your potable not water! Take Care!

I mean your entire family is very grateful and thankful for all the blessings in your lives already........ If there ever was someone more deserving I wouldn't believe the person who told me it. I pray God keeps blessings coming to the Entire Welker family!!

We decided on the tankless (NG) water heater 3 years ago. It was a solid decision, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The house is going to be awesome. The sunrise and sunsets will be breathtaking!! Congrats !!

We've had a tankless (LP) for over 10 years James and will never go back to a tank model. It only heats water when you need it and you never run out of hot water no matter how long you run it - it's a win-win for us. 👌

We live in the mid-atlantic area and got an 80gal water heater about 5 years ago. The 60gal didn't fill our garden tub. Apparently, they don't make 80s anymore because they aren't efficient. With all the calcium in our water, even with a softener and filter, I have to drain it and vacuum out the deposits every 2 years or so ir it shorts our bottom element. I've wanted an instant heater, but we only have electric and no gas where I live and I don't think theyvwill work well enough on electric. I has a gas one in Alabama a couple of decades ago and it worked great, but putting gas in my house just for that would be expensive.
@mammutMK2
@mammutMK2 Жыл бұрын
The newer electric ones are way better then the old ones (boiling or cold), they can get preset to a temperature and still have water pressure (what is the issue with old ones). We had it in the fire department and a friend had it in her apartment. Don't wasting energy in getting the water boiling to cool it back down after 10 ft.

Im in Australia and put in a instant gas fired system almost 30 years ago and its still going strong. We have a lot of calcium in our water here and stored hot water systems only last a few years at best.
@Jokemeister1
@Jokemeister1 Жыл бұрын
One thing to consider that drives me nuts is the gas fired tankless (mine at least) has a minimum flow or it will shut off the heater. Where this is a pain in the bum is when you just want to take the chill off the straight cold water.....say on a summers day and you're hot and dirty and dont want a hot shower. Really any time you only want a little bit of hot water or lukewarm water, you'll have to achieve a minimum flow and it is so wasteful.

Got rid of my tankless hot water heater very quickly. If you’re water isn’t completely pure and free of minerals. They build up in the tankless heater and keep it from working. And it struggled to keep the water hot on the far side of my house. Was a constant issue. Been much happier with a traditional tank hot water heater.

In your part of the world a stand by home generator is a MUST! As a retired master electrician and contractor I’ve installed dozens of generators from 12 kw to a mega watt . I would look at a 22kw size for your home if you want the convenience of having power through out your new home. A 200 amp transfer switch should be specified too. Nice job and great schedule by you. No wasted days waiting for materials.

When you started building your house I didn’t think you would get it dried in before winter. Your contractor has done an amazing job. Now you can work on the inside all winter in comfort. You still have a lot of work to do but at the rate it’s being built you should be moved in by spring or early summer.

Good call installing the pump in the basement where it is accessible at all times, trust you did the same with the sewer pump unless u put in a submersible. Just a suggestion to please put a substantial lock on the cistern access, it will keep curious kids OUT. Your house looks wonderful I am sure it will bring you great satisfaction living there. all you need now are some trees for a shelter belt.

My recommendation for a water heater is to put in a regular tank water heater and then use a mixing valve This way you turn a 50 gallon water heater into a 100 gallon water heater You turn up the temperature on the water heater to maximum and then mix incoming cold water with the extra hot water to get “just right” Water Your wife will love being able to wash clothes, do dishes, and have the kids take baths/ showers all at the same time without running out of hot water This worked Fantastic for me when my kids were small

Get yourself a Rheem Marathon water heater. They have spun fiberglass tanks that DO NOT rust. I’ve had an 85 gallon for about 8 years and it’s been great. I hadn’t flushed the tank for the first 5 years and when I did, water came out crystal clear because there is no glass-lined steel tank to rust away.

I fit both Tankless and Tanked hot water systems, it really depends on the system and your hot water usage, we normally work on the principal that you would want enough hot water to feed all the hot water outlets at the same time at a good rate, most direct water systems can struggle with high flow rates

Put in solar hot water heat... needs to be coupled with a tank water heater. Tankless also has lower flow rates and just doesn't give the same quality of hot water experience. Solar Hot Water will save you a bundle over the lifetime of your home. Mount solar panels on the roof and add an inverter to have your power be free also. You don't have to do any of that right now, but plan for it now and put it in as soon as you can afford it.

My folks used a thankless water heater in two of there homes and where sorry about using the tankless on both!! As in both homes it always took allot of water to run before any hot water would get to any where in house. So on the 2nd home they put back in a tanked water heater and so happy they changed back to a tanked system. I have watched about many of these tankless systems on KZbin, most must have yearly work done on them to keep them working OK. And so if I where your friend I would tell you to use a tanked system only. Take care!

I have had both and and tankless cut power bill in half also on those days when you want a shower and so does the wife and baths for all the kiddies, you never run out of hot water. The only reason I would use a tank type is if you need to have an extra supply of water. A friend in Hawaii has 4 of them so incase of hurricane or tsunami his family always has water. Since you have a cistern I don't think that is a problem so yes tankless all the way. Also if you are looking at running it off propane or gas or electrical I would choose propane or gas before electrical.

Tankless water heater. Cost more but with all the kids in the house it's a constant supply of hot water no mater who is taking a shower. When you come home from a hard day of work do you really wan to wait to take a hot shower because the kids cleared it out? Also - they last much longer then a tank system because there is no expansion or contracting.
