I have the MKI R1 and was so stoked to see Walrus offer the same algorithms to existing users. I feel like that locked me in as a Walrus guy, knowing they'll do right by their customers. Cool move!

Loving the new algorithms. So glad my Mk1 R1 got majority of the new improvements. I wish they would have stuck with the full size MIDI connections on the Mk2 personally, but having a screen/more control is definitely a nice addition.

Great playing and tones, as always, Andrew! I've got the entire Mako v1 line - just updated the D1/M1/R1 but won't have the chance to play with them for a few days. Nice to have a preview! The new displays are sweet;. Now I need to think hard if I want to trade away the v1s and move to the MKIIs. 🤔

thanks my friend! Wow, yeah what timing! Cool that you can update them to the new firmware to get a feel for the sounds first. I would definitely say the M1 would benefit from having the new screen UI; that pedal had a lot of cool sounds but man I could never remember what my settings were or what I was controlling ha!

I spend a lot of time using massive reverbs. The first part of the video has made me think I should pullback a little and see if I can,ask something simpler and more traditional once in a while.

Man I have to remind myself to do that too! I love the big washy tones you can get from a lot of the Walrus reverbs, but in most other contexts I usually do like the results when I dial back reverb settings just a bit to let the guitar shine through.

The Mako pedals have always given a lot of bang for your buck but have suffered in the same way the chase bliss pedals do when using presets and midi - which is pretty much essential to benefit from their versatility. The lack of being able to see what parameters are doing what when a preset is recalled is a big negative UI issue for me. This is a nice step forward

Yeah totally; when you start getting into midi, not having a more exhaustive screen or some sort of visual feedback about current settings is kind of tricky. I imagine you would get that in these MKII screens; it displays a set point for each setting of the current spot you're moving from, so that at least helps you have the "starting point" for reference.

It really makes the presets you can access from the front panel more important. Luckily the ones that ship are solid. But certainly when a pedal has value that’s locked behind an interface with a computer or phone, absolutely in 20 years that’s going to be lost value. That said, i think their on-pedal editing is incredibly impressive, and frankly, for me, i’m perfectly happy just using the knobs on-panel.

I didn’t vibe with the previous R1 either. Is this a better version in your opinion? I feel like walrus reverbs have a warm feel that I like but they sometimes make mixing more difficult.
