Great video! They sound best when paired together. Personally, I tell newer players to start out with Boss to get an idea for each pedal type. However, Walrus might be onto something with this simplified approach. If they were looking to expand I'd say either a looper or an octave pedal is missing from the series.

Thank you! Honestly I probably shouldn't be saying this since I want to compare the budget lines across the board. But, I think Walrus has the budget line across the board with the Fundamental series and they're an easy recommendation at this point.

This is a really good entry for a series called Fundamental. And just being called Ambient, does what it says on the tin, 10 outta 10 on that front. Though to very slightly nitpick....I think I'd have preferred a pre-delay slider & just preset the tone or something. I mean they aren't changing the circuit layout it's how they keep the costs down & the line consistent & that's probably more difficult & costly. The next Fundamental imo....pattern delay. Give me a couple multi-head delay algorithms set the tone wide enough to go from crispy drum delay down to glitchy lo-fi with a warm tape in the middle. Boom, it's a hit.

Yea, It's an excellent entry into the Fundamental series, and the price point is a 10/10 for me. I understand the nitpick and I get that. Im okay with the sliders and I usually dont mess with the Pre-delay. But dude!!! a pattern delay would be awesome! If they could do a Fundamental version of the Fable that would be amazing!

You beautiful man. Is the ambient an affordable take on the Slö or is it its own thing? The octave stuff sounds similar? Less modulation is probably the biggest difference.

Awe shucks! :) Ambient is its own unique algorithms, Definitely NOT a repacked Slö. I did stack it with the Slö and man!!!! It does not disappoint! I should've filmed that.

The Reverb is perfectly pleasant, but having what I already do of good right-up-the-middle compact reverbs, I wouldn’t go for it. Not worse-I just feel covered on those sounds. The Ambient draws me, though. Again I don’t need it, but I could see hitting it because it sounds very good and has its own thing that I would enjoy.

Understandable, overall I just love affordable gear and the fact that people can get a super awesome reverb for not a lot of money is really the draw for me. But I’m also the guy that hoards reverb pedals like an addiction. lol .

Fundamental is all about saving loot right? How bout a simple combo looper/tuner that covers two spots on ur board at once? Still one switch and the tuner is just always on with a slider for brightness and another slider for loop volume..

That is a pretty good idea...but that Canvas tuner is still pretty awesome. but I would love a looper along the lines of the Count to 5.

@@JasonTMays yea a micro looper would be super cool.. They don't even have that in their full line, do they? Or any looper for that matter. Maybe they could do like a Fundamental Freeze and do something unique with that type of thing..

@@13aphomet Nah, I dont think they have a looper in their line up. I mean, I'd be down for a canvas looper. I just get the feeling they'd want to do something that makes it stand apart from other loopers. But, I'd definitely be interested to see what they can cook up.

The idea of a looper is nice, however it would have to bring something different to the game. Which is a big ask at that price point. Enjoyed this ep, J. Thanks. Edit: should have added "at that price point, and taking into consideration the theme of the pedals being fundamentals."

I know, It's a HUGE ask but If anyone can crack an affordable looper that does something slightly different like some kind of granular effect....I think it's Walrus.

I don't know about the sliders. Never a good idea for things that get stepped on. I am sure I'm not the only one who won't buy pedals with them. I would own a Slöer but for sliders. Ah well, pedals factor ever less and less in my playing anyhow :)

I will say that a year into owning my Slóer and the CXM 1978 I haven't had any issues with the sliders. But Im pretty meticulous about my pedals. But at that price point I can't argue about sliders. lol.

It takes some time, but I've never had one that didn't cause issues down the road. I suppose you could get around it by buying new pedals every year. I'm sure that's reasonable. 🤣 @@JasonTMays

@@mooseymoose LMAO. I mean...to be fair, depending on where you get it from if they offer an extended warranty then that may come in clutch. But overall I trust Walrus in terms of build quality and I haven't seen or read any issues yet.
