Thank You, thank you, thank you Cheesebrew WaxArchive!!! for allowing me, Janne Cochran, his youngest daughter who happens to look just like him and took after him musically, to hear his beautiful voice once more! I was just on youtube the other day listening to HIS favorite musicians Ernest Tubb, Cowboy Copas, and so many others that I would be here for 3 yrs. to list them all, and I happened to think , I can pull up all these people like Ricky Skaggs, The Whites, all Bluegrass artist, which, besides my dad are my favorites and of course what he liked, REAL traditional country music; but I can't hear my all time favorite country artist, my dad Walt Cochran! How annoying! But God heard my request and a little later, I found this, and I just about jumped for joy. He's been gone 10 yrs. now and I never missed someone so much in my whole life! No one compares to my dad, there's no one like him and never will be again. I could'nt go to his funeral because of crazy stuff going on in the family, and that drives me crazy too; but this particular song, done by him, ( I think he had a cold at this recording, and listen to how great he still sounds, the other side of this 45 has a song called "Darlin' what am I gonna do? " that is fantastic! It was hard to sing cause it's so poignant, a real tear-jerker, I don't know how HE pulled it off, cause he wrote from something that happened to him, but he did it, like he did everything, His way greatly! He tried for so many years to "make it", he played all over the place, did benefits at prisons, shopping centers, and fund raisers, local and non local gigs from the time he married my mother in 1945 till I was in high school in the late 70's, and still had a full time job at the Westinghouse Plant on Phillipi Rd, which is now Big Lots. Being the youngest, I didn't fully grasp what was going on till I got a lot older, but for an 8th grade graduate from Diana Grade School in Diana, WVa, what you notice is how professional he was and how great and unique his music sounded, he listened to everyone, but he personalized his unique style so that anyone who listened knew after a few minutes that while the words to the song might be familiar, the music was totally his OWN! I'll bet you could bring this "out" right now and it would shoot straight to #1 cause it makes you want to MOVE, and that's what all of us need. Sorry to yak for so long, but I' m just flabbergasted, overjoyed and totally delighted all at the same time! When I was about 5, Dad was the opening act for Cavalcade of Stars from Nashville, Tn. and one of the headliners, at the Palace Theater here in Columbus, was Connie Smith, who I heard regularly on the radio. Anyway, me and my big sister Jenne, who was 5 yrs older than me; wanted to talk to Connie and get her autograph and maybe, if we got lucky, a picture. Well, we knocked on the door 3 or 4 different times, but her husband, at the time, a real knock-out, but sadly lacking in serious manners, kept telling us to get lost in a very nasty way. Our last attempt was about an hour before the show was to start, and he started in tellin' us in his nasty way to get lost, but before we took off, we heard Miss Smith, over-ride him by saying, as if she were very angry, " Those are Walts' kids and you let them come in here to see me this minute!" Did you hear me? I said let them in, are you crazy? They're Walts' kids!! and I thought to myself, "Connie Smith KNOWS my dad? Wow!" That was the first time I really knew he was more than just my dad". God Bless Connie Smith for being so gracious! She put me on her lap, asked what we did in school, what we liked, fed us and gave us her big box of chocolates, her autograph and pictures, gave both of us hugs and kisses before we had to leave, with her husband griping ALL THE TIME WE WERE THERE, I see why she got rid of him. It was like visiting one of our Aunts in WVa., not like a stranger. I could go on and on, I met more stars before the age of 12, than most people meet in their entire lives, But my favorite star is now, and always be, my dad, Walt Cochran, Love ya' Dad, You are and were the greatest!!! You saved the best for last, love from Dumplin', Janne Leah Patricia
