That's good. Have you ever watched the video of the Lennon Sisters singing the song "Ferdinand the Bull"(based on this Disney short,of,course) in concert,in 1958? Really neat-they dressed up in very Spanish looking apparel,Janet,the youngest,even wore a matador hat,and they even sang about and enacted the part about the bee bringing out Ferdinand's bad side,enough for the matador(Janet) to challenge him to a fight,but,like in the movie,Ferdinand managed to resist it and stick to his very much friendly nature-"when the picador missed him,Ferdinand kissed him, as he never learned how to fight. Ole!" It's on youtube-type in keywords "The Lennon Sisters,Ferdinand the Bull."
@MrJamieMurph41419698 жыл бұрын
It was on the Lawrence Welk show in 1958, that the quartet of Lennon Sisters sang the novelty song Ferdinand the Bull. There are two different videos on youtube(from two different occasions), one take shows the bull smelling the flowers as,he comes out.

Of course I used to read this in English and Spanish to my kids when they little. I read the book when I was kid so it was fun to read it over and over and over. I don't think they ever got tired of hearing it. Then, they had an artist friend of ours create a paining of Ferdinand from the book for my birthday. That was in 1995 and I still hang the painting proudly. We call the moment of enlightenment cause that it was his expression when he sat on the bee.

It's very similar to the part in Fun and Fancy Free's Mickey and the Beanstalk segment where Charlie McCarthy says this about Mickey, Donald, and Goofy's cow: "She's and udder failure!" The cow, hearing the whole exchange, takes offense to that remark and walks off.

This was actually a metaphor to the United States' initial decision to not join allied forces in WWII. Ferdinand represented the US who claimed impartiality most of the way. Ironically, the bee was sort of like Pearl Harbor. One little sting, and the beast comes at you full force.

Interesting point. I totally agree that there are very, very few (none?) that aren't subject to some kind of human "use" and cruelty. Watching Earthlings (free on line) convinced me of that! I like the lesson though --- Believe me on this point... Maybe anyway to get kids (or adults) to lean towards kindness is a good thing. Thanks for offering this perspective. ;)

@xaviervonrottie It's a metaphor of the war. The bulls want to go in the fight just because of the fame even knowing that they could get kill, same way people want to go to war thinking they become heroes, where in relity they're only going to kill or get kill. That's the importance of a dandy as Ferdinand: he has found an happy way of living and he'll never accept to take part in a brutally fight. But other people can't understand...
