Disney might be more synonymous with Star Wars, Marvel, and theme parks at this stage, but
it’s worth remembering that the entertainment conglomerate had much simpler origins as the
tax entity for an humble animator.
It wasn’t a production company forged by the coming together of seasoned movie execs, but
the snowballing of one guy’s determination to not give up.
Of course, in retrospect, the destiny of Walter Disney seems inevitable - his adaptiveness kept
him one step ahead of competitors and his grit broke through barrier after barrier - but given
how often he came close to giving up, and how often he went broke, it’s worth chronicling his
transformation from freelance cartoonist to cinematic visionary.
So it’s time to learn How History Works as we pick apart the early life and career of Walt Disney,
a man who changed animation forever

It's funny how even today people don't understand the amount of value in animation when one of the largest and most successful companies in the world were built upon it.

Animation is the foundation of live-action. It's just more recognizable with its remnants in VFX. However, it is overshadowed by motion and performance capture.

In an alternate timeline, Walt Disney could've easily given up on his dreams and live a regular life. But through luck, and sheer determination, he broke through, and changed the world.

Now that I know a bit more about the origins of Disney it makes a lot more sense why Disney are incredibly litigious and protective of their IP. Of course anyone would be, but the old saying goes copy right law is defined as the life of the author plus however many years it's been since Walt Disney died. Also, story time: When I was a child I owned a Disney Anniversary Edition of Snow White. After the film it had a mini documentary with Walt Disney and Shirley Temple talking about the development of the film and its successes and challenges. As an 8 year old I didn't really appreciate the gravity of what Walt Disney had achieved, but I would go on to understand it more and more. I think that post credits doco was instrumental in growing my love and appreciation of film as art and the creative process of film and documentary. How one makes a talkie.

The copyright on Mickey Mouse was supposed to expire in 2003 but a Republican Congress extended it by 20 years because back then Disney was family-friendly. It won't be extended again, and Mickey will enter the public domain next year.

Learning this history makes me think what would he think of the current Iger Disney path, he would probably be angry to see that his huge empire is following the same failure path he struggled so much in his life.

Me too! But the Walt Disney Company is a different company than it was a 100 years ago. Its a company that buys out other companies... Its not as innovative any more.😢 The parks aren't doing so well either. 🥺

Walt Disney, with hard work and dedication brought cartoons to the big screen as full fledged movies. The last 2d animated movie the Disney corporation made was in 2009....... Now it's just 3d animation and bad live action reboots, sad.

That Segway at the end really detracted from the end of the video. It felt like you were delivering a short and had to rush to get in your plug before you ran out of time, rather than letting the end of the video breathe

Interesting take on Walt Disney. Learned a few things. Thanks for the video. I am curious why the use of chromatic aberration so much? So distracting in a way that did not add to the video. Made me go look to see if that was your thing in other videos and am glad it is not.

Why not leave out all the very modern footage? What is Will Smith doing in a story about something that happened a century ago? Why is there a clip from The Godfather? Why would you show flatscreens? It's OK to stall on one pic instead of creating a strobe light effect. The western world wasn't filled with African doctors and CEOs, by the way (and still isn't), as much as you seem to want this. Maybe call the channel How I Want History to Work.

He was a closet pagan or wiccan. Or warlock. He has a fascination with the occult and also was a member of the secret societies in the United States. He also heavily invested in the up and coming porn industry in California... nothing he did to keep afloat was an accident. He did it with intent for he actually communicated with higher forces. He did talk about some of these things in a self autobiography etc that he made on his life.
