Die finnische Band Waltari hat schon in den 1980er Jahren mit diversen Sounds und Genres experimentiert - irgendwo im Niemandsland zwischen Metal, Alternative, Pop und Rock. Auch sinfonische Elemente, Techno und HipHop gehören zu ihren Stilelementen. Klingt irre? Ist es auch.
Kärtsy Hatakka (Gesang und Bass) gründet die Band Waltari 1986 in Helsinki. Zu jener Zeit beginnt in Finnland gerade eine kulturelle Hochphase: Bands wie die Leningrad Cowboys und Regisseur Aki Kaurismäki sorgen wenig später international für Aufsehen, und 1991 dreht US-Regisseur Jim Jarmusch in der Stadt einige ikonische Szenen seines Kultfilms "Night on Earth". Im selben Jahr erscheint Waltaris Debütalbum "Monk-Punk", auf dem sich die Band passend zum Titel vor allem punkig gibt. Ab dem Album "Torcha" von 1992 beginnen Waltari, die Stile zu mischen.
1995 mixen sie auf "Big Bang" sogar Metal und Techno, danach experimentiert Hatakka mit dem Dirigenten Riku Niemi mit klassischer Musik und Heavy Metal. Nach weiteren Ausflügen in progressive Elektronik, Ballett und Oper wird die Band Ende der 90er mit "Radium Round" poppig, und ab der Jahrtausendwende taucht sie bewusst wieder in obskurere Gefilde ab, mit Metal und traditionellem Yoik-Gesang und Punk. Waltari bleiben eine der spannendsten und experimentierfreudigsten europäischen Metalbands.

Классная группа. Все альбомы хорошие, но пик у них был да - в 90-х. Hatakka зажигалка, конечно, но остальные участники, как первый раз на сцене. Да и сам фестиваль как местячковый - ни народу, ни драйва....

Sorry all but Waltari's version is better one.... for me :) But everything is So fine? :) The Forrest is just... wow wtf.. song and this version is just 2x more... Still Cure, so much respect! Waltari is just awesome!

Kärtsy Hattaka IS Waltari. One may like his voice or not. He's unique, as a singer and as a person. I've seen them live several times, and I can admit, he was not really in good shape that day. First half was awful. Waltari is.. let's say a difficult band for the average listener. They're unique as well. Waltari throw more genres into one album (sometimes even into just one song), than other bands try out during their whole carreer.
