As a kid, the CBS news with Uncle Wally was the featured newscast. Fox news wasn't even a thought. Walter Cronkite was the most trusted man in America, and he certainly earned that badge of honor. I truly miss his manner of news, and there will be no other to replace him. And that's the way it is, December 28th, two thousand and fourteen. This is Walter Cronkite, CBS News, good night.

Two days after this, on Sunday evening, I was watching a special on Cronkite's life on TV, and talking about what a good, long life he'd had. A few minutes later the phone rang. It was my youngest son telling me that my oldest son was dead, at age 26. I guess I will think about that every time I hear of Walter Cronkite, for the rest of my life.

During World War II, Ed Murrow tried to recruit Cronkite (then with the United Press wire service) for CBS News, but Cronkite declined the offer. Nevertheless, an arrangement was made that allowed Cronkite to serve as a stringer for CBS during the latter phases of the War; joining CBS full-time in 1950.

I am black, and I liked, admired, and respected both Michael Jackson and Walter Cronkite. Both were a huge, constant part of my childhood. I have felt the passing of both deeply. When "Off The Wall" came out in 1979, and I was listening to the songs, I was watching "Uncle Walter" every night on the news. I greatly treasure those days. So, everyone's not caught up in race.

The Last of the Edward R. Murrow School is now gone, but not forgotten. MORE than just a Reporter, "Uncle Walter" also has a Special Place in American History. Even Murrow would have had to control his emotions as "Uncle Walter" did on Nov. 22. He was crying, but stayed cool and reassuring live on camera. His Greatness was EARNED and there WILL NEVER be another like him. Good Bye "Uncle Walter." You will be missed.

Even young journalists living in a cynical age idolized Walter Cronkite--I should know, I'm one of them. That is true greatness and true journalism. RIP> we won't forget you.

Only people who lived with Cronkite in their living rooms each evening can know what is truly missing in news reporting today. Just hearing his voice here takes me back. He reported during some of the most chaotic times in American and world history but I think hearing the news from a trusting voice somehow kept us feeling grounded and safe. I have missed this man so much since news reporting took a dive into entertainment and sensationalism.

That is some of the most f---ed up logic I think I have ever heard or read. A man who was a pop star who had his day and became more of a public fascination due to his increasingly bizarre exploits VS. one of the most trusted journalistic icons who delivered history-making news as it happened, and changed the face of the industry worldwide. I'm willing to bet his name may not be remembered in the same way as time goes by, but the foundations he built are invaluable.
