That was amazing .. thanks for sharing …that vollmer machine is amazing ..

Nice video, but the thing I was the most exited about wasn't mentioned. How do they get the spiral holes in the carbide?
@f1rezs Жыл бұрын
Very simple, it is just nylon rope that evaporates when the blanks are sintered

I was clicking through trying to find that after it was first announced. Never found it :(

As far as I can remember, they are cast in there prior to the beginning when the blanks are made - and I don’t recall if it’s shown but they have optical sensors inside the machine that index the profile of the drill to the holes when they’re ground so a flute doesn’t end up cutting through a coolant channel - super neat stuff!

its done by having spiral copper (preshaped) that the carbide powder is pressed around. sintering melts it away leaving the desired spiral shap inside

He did say it was done in the carbide blanks, just not how

Wow, Ian. That was amazing! I'd love to see how they make the coolant holes spiral inside of the flutes. I cannot imagine how to make a spiraling hole unless those holes are made in an additive manufacturing method. How else could it be done? Thanks Ian for another amazing tour!!! 😊

Probably some type of plastic or resin spiral, which when the carbide is burned in a kiln, the plastic would brurn off too, leaving a channel. Cleaning said channel could be done by forcing abrasive liquid through said channels at highish pressure. I dunno, just guessing tho

Why holes in the tip?? Obviously it's for a reason.

If they could only ship their tools on time, when promised. Delivery is quite disappointing.
