I think Walter, being a genius chemist, would have been the perfect person to tell Thanos the universe isn’t finite, as matter cannot be destroyed so its resources can be recycled infinite number of times. Even if he still holds onto that notion, the universe is constantly expanding with new exoplanets being discovered every second; even if the planets can’t support the number of life on it, the planets out there can, which should be easy for a space-faring civilisation with hyper speed travel.
